Has anyone found a good console lock or console vault for a 2017 Expedition that will still allow you to have easy access to the USBs in the console?

I found several options for a vault but they all seem to also cover the USBs. Anyone mod a console vault to give you access to the USBs?

I didn't find anything I was happy with so I bolted a safe to the back of my 2nd row seat. It's very secure. I can easily tip the seat forward and access it when I need to. That's only for a back up in my case. My daily carry is on me or waiting in my console with no lock to get in the way.

Thanks for the response. Do you have a picture of what you put on your 2nd row seats, just curious what that looks like? Maybe I can do something similar but have it closer to the driver's seas somehow. I want something I can access quickly from my driver's seat, but also don't want my kids to have access to it.

Also did you put something in your console to hold your gun when you put it in there? again just curious.

Would a USB extension cord solve anything for you? Maybe one with a hub that you can mount elsewhere in the truck? All the vaults I've seen pretty much seal the console opening, so you'd probably have to rig a route to the outside from within.

It's just a pretty standard set up like on the below link. I bolted it to the seat. My console isn't secured. You could bolt it to the back of your passenger seat for reachable access somehow, but I don't know how that would work, look etc.

Several options exist. You can get an under steering wheel mount (strap or mounted with screws). I find my knees find it way too often in that location.

By "kids access", do you mean while driving or at other times?

By the "kids access" comment, I am just being overly cautious. I'm not so much concerned about it when I am driving. I don't normally leave my gun in the car nor do I normally leave my kids unattended in my car...and if I did have to leave it in there, I definitely would not leave my kids unattended. I just want to be able to lock my gun in the console (or somewhere) for when I do have to leave it in my car. However, I constantly have my phone plugged into the USBs for CarPlay features, so I was wondering if anyone knew of something out there that allowed me to continue to use the USBs while having a vault/lock in the console.

If there isn't anything like that then I can continue to lock it i the glove compartment when needed and maybe I'll get something else to hold my gun when I'm driving.

I have a soft foam holster that I wedge between the drivers seat and the console.

I just swapped out my stock console with one from Havis. They have bolt-ons available. Huge space available inside once the main box is removed. I got a bracket with a usb hole & glued the factory connector on the underside. I'm looking to either add a cb or ham radio before a lock box. Havis has those available too. 20190827_143445.jpg 20190827_152906.jpg

Instead of the safe or console vault, has anyone added a lock to the glovebox? I’ve never understood why Ford omitted something that just about every other manufacturer includes as standard equipment.

I checked with Console Vault and the USP ports are inaccessible with the lid closed. Not sure if the lid remains cracked a bit with the armrest down.

I had this vault in my '07 and it worked very well. Had trouble opening it once after a service at a local Ford dealer. The lid was slightly sprung with some subtle scratches. Last time serviced at that dealer! Lid held.

Perhaps you can modify the console vault by plasma cutting or drilling access for the USB port and for the cable to exit. That would be my choice. I didn't want to loose the console space for storage, my vault is under the rear of the driver's seat on a security cable.

Please check the picture

The wire for the phone is easy to run through the coin holders, which are of no use any longer while the Vault is closed and secure IMG_2286.jpg

The easiest would be to detach the usb, add a USB extension, and either mount it under the dash with the included mounts, or replace the center dash light/power socket with it (it fits, and you have more within a foot or two)

PS btw, the spare tire jack and crap compartment is just begging to be converted to a hidden vault if you're looking for something a little more concealed and less breakable

(the console vault is usually just a locking metal lid right? Determined or irritated burglar could cut through the console side with a mere pocket knife)

No. At least in the form of the Console Vault (brand) it's a complete steel box that fits inside the console. Don't recall if it has a steel bottom, but all 4 sides are steel as is the lid.

But I can get into anyone's typical "gun safe" with a $20 Harbor Freight angle grinder in 10 minutes (thru the side) so, like the Console Vault I consider these a deterrent not a 100% solution. If someone is in your car prepared with the all tools they'll get in, but the average parking valet (or mechanic at the Ford dealer) ain't getting in.

This all goes back to even locking the truck. I've seen several videos of tow truck drivers opening locked cars in less than a minute. So why bother locking it? Other than to keep the other 99% of folks out, that is.

I checked online at consolevault and you are correct the box had changed from mine, 2011 to the 2017 model. I would follow Adieu run wires under the console to a hub which could be in front of the console as there is just an empty plastic space there 2017 exp vault.jpg
