I'm still on the fence on the purchase. I like the look of the limited - mainly the wheels while I know I probably won't appreciate the additional features it has over the XLT 202a.

So what can I do? Purchase the XLT and upgrade the wheels? Anyone know how much extra the dealer would charge?

How about a used limited worth low miles priced under a new xlt?

I’m also debating this. 202a does not add power tailgate right? To me the power running boards make the limited worth it. What else does the limited get over the XLT 202a besides better leather?

I have 2019 XLT 4wd with 202A package, driver enhance and 20 inches wheel package. The only thing I missed from Limited is 2nd row heater and power running boards. I don't see a difference in leather. I do have power tailgate with foot sensor. I would stay away from 2018 models with plastic oil pan. It's a pain to change oil.

Is plastic a standard thing in all 2018 trims

Yes. It's first year model with many kinks to work out. I waited until 2019 and bought mine around August. A lot of owners hate the plastic drain plug because it will break when changing oil and you need a new one from Ford dealer. Ford switched back to metal drain plug in 2019.

I'm not sure if they are different but every 3rd gen I looked at back in the fall that had power running boards either had one or both broken or one that was finicky...wouldn't come down everytime you opened the door. Granted that was only 3 vehicles but that was 3 completely random examples at 3 different locations. Myself, I'd never buy them if given the option. They are nice looking but they aren't a cheap fix if out of warranty.

2nd row heated and the power lift gate are very underrated options imo, it catches people off guard that our 03 has heated and cooled seats and is always a welcome feature for almost anyone who happens to be in it. I'd jump on those given the chance. I wouldn't hesitate on a low mile unit either, it's likely that itll be well within factory warranty and if the proce is reasonable you dont have much to lose, get a good enough deal to slap an extended plan on as well and might even be better than new for the same price.

The ambiance in the ltd is a bit nicer, the heated sec row seats are nice but ppl never kno its available to them. Seat comfort is subjective, the ltd seats seem a bit more contoured and supportive, but the xlt is more comfy all around. The steering wheel leather is far superior in the ltd, one of the best steering wheels in the business personally. Idk if theres a driving difference btw the standard springs. I believe the 18s are slightly better than the 20s but not much. If you get a 302/303 with ccd n 22s, the ride is drastically different.

The plastic oil pan and drain plug was only on early production 2018's.

Expeditions manufactured from March 20, 2018 and forward have the aluminum oil pan.

The XLT 202A package was my primary search when looking but I didn't exclude Limited. As it turned out, I got a Limited for the price of the XLT but it took some shopping time and involved travel to CO to purchase. The Limited does have a few more spoil me options, but generally not worth the $5k+ difference in price...ymmv.

Whatever you decide, my recommendation to anyone buying a used Expedition passed it's original warranty is to purchase an ESP Premium Care (covers it all) warranty. These rigs have some design warts and it's a fools game not to have the repair insurance. Just read the long and repeating list of thread titles .

Things that I liked on the Limited (for 2018) were availability of rear captain's chairs (XLT didn't offer them in 2018), availability of LED headlights (as a stand alone option or as part of 302A package), and availability of CCD suspension.

These are just about the same things that steered me towards the Limited. Aesthetically, I liked the look of the wheels offered with the CCD, and the power step was a must... my little kiddos had a hard time getting in an expy with the fixed step. If any of the perks above steer you towards limited and you are looking to get the tow package and like the look of the stealth wheels, I would strongly suggest looking into the "Special Edition" group package as there is a decent savings attached with it.

I have an ‘18 MAX XLT with 202a + HD tow + Driver Assist. Originally I wanted a Limited specifically for the LED headlight option, and hubby really wanted the power running boards. We couldn’t justify the extra $3K+ just for those two features so we went with the XLT.

I had read about some of the issues people were having with the standard headlights, which is why I was hoping for the LEDs, but I have to say that the standard ones haven’t been an issue for us.

As far as the running boards go, less than 3 weeks after we bought the car, I got a nice chunk taken out of the passenger side running board where someone must have door dinged us pretty hard. If it hadn’t been for our fixed running boards, we definitely would have had significant body damage. Hubby was instantly grateful for the fixed running boards and was very glad we didn’t have the power ones.

In the end, we’re really happy with our XLT and don’t miss the extra features the Limited would have given us.

I know some people have been complaining about some of the driver assistance features but I have to say that the Driver Assistance package is so worth it for us. It isn’t perfect, but I will never buy a car again without adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and auto braking.

I agree!!! Very important. Great features. Improved safety. I use the distance sensing cruise all the time. I won't consider a vehicle without these features.

I also agree. I use the Adaptive Cruise Control a lot more than I had originally thought I would.

I have a 2019 XLT 202A with 20 inch wheels and Driver Assistance. However I had a loaner 2019 Limited with Stealth Package that I drove for about ten days. If I was looking to purchase another Expedition, I would definitely go Limited with Stealth Package.

What differences did you notice btw the two?

We have a 2019 XLT, we test drove 2 Limited's, one of them stealth package.

It was hard for us to justify the extra 20k for the features, I mean that's like a base model civic msrp. But don't get me wrong, it was super nice. You won't be disappointed.

Perhaps check out the platinum's, at least u get the 400hp engine.

Edmund's and other reccomend XLT w/202A. After reading that and shopping I was amazed at the deals in late August. Got one with HD tow for under $50K. Shoot, 2018's with 30K are asking that. Has the touch nav, 20" wheels, Driver's assistance package- all of which I could care less about. It does have the auto tailgate that wants to hit you in the head when hitching up trailer and am going to disconnect. Power running boards? Meh.

We just did a 4K mile trip with 21' TT and the ride is amazing.

Last month, I bought my 2019 xlt with 202a, also got the pano sunroof and some other options I didn’t care for.

xlt with 202a and pano roof is just about the same as ltd. ONLY missing the FRONT PARKING SENSORS and electrical running board.

It does take some time get use to in today’s world with out front parking sensor, I’m testing the distance every time i park. The electrical running boards was not an big deal i had them on my Lincoln Navigator, never had any issue on my running boards (135k miles), but i do see many cars with damaged boards and there’s no way to repair, so the less moving parts the better imo.

At the end of the day it’s comes down to price and selection. I got the xlt not because i wanted the xlt, more of the ford promotion that was only available to the xlt model. If the promotion was on the ltd, I’ve probably end up with the ltd.
