I assume the Expedition is the same but when I put a regulator in my "new to me" Navigator door it worked fine for a couple days but now the window hits the top and then comes back down 3 inches. If I fiddle with it for a while I can get it closed.

I know how to fix that, only takes a couple seconds.

You likely just need to re-initialize it. This is for the 2010 Navi (I don't have the 07 manual), but it's likely the same.

SECTION 501-11: Glass, Frames and Mechanisms
2010 Expedition, Navigator Workshop Manual
GENERAL PROCEDURES
Procedure revision date: 07/02/2009
Window Motor Initialization
NOTE: Initialization is required to learn both the full UP and full DOWN positions and the profile of the glass as it travels through the glass channel. Once initialized, obstacle detection is enabled. This procedure is only required for Navigator (LF and RF) or Expedition (LF only) window motors.

NOTE: The window motor must be initialized whenever: the motor is removed from window regulator drum housing, a new motor is installed, a new window regulator is installed, new window glass is installed, glass top run removal or installation is carried out or when carrying out any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the window system. All window components (window glass, window regulator, window motor and glass top run) must be installed and tightened to specification before carrying out this procedure. Refer to the De-Initialization Procedure in this section prior to performing the window motor initialization (unless a new motor is being installed).

NOTE: A new (or de-initialized) LF/RF (Navigator) or LF (Expedition) window motor will not operate in one-touch up mode until initialized. If a new LF/RF window motor has been installed, proceed to the Window Motor Initialization procedure in this section.

NOTE: Excessive bounce-back (window reverses direction with no obstructions present) may indicate that a de-initialization procedure may need to be performed.

De-Initialization Procedure

  1. Start with the ignition key in the RUN position and open one front door.
  1. NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 must be performed within 8 seconds.

Turn the ignition key from OFF to RUN 5 times.
  1. Press the window control switch to the one-touch DOWN position (second detent) and release.
Window Motor Initialization

SAJ~us~en~file=ani_caut.GIF~gen~ref.GIF
WARNING: Keep objects and body parts clear of the glass panel when carrying out the initialization procedure. During the initialization procedure, the glass panel closes with high force and cannot detect objects in its path. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

  1. Start with the ignition key in the OFF position and with the LF/RF door open.
  1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
  1. Activate and hold the window control switch in the one-touch DOWN position (second detent) until the window glass stalls for 2 seconds at the bottom of its travel and release the switch.
  1. NOTE: After performing this step, wait a minimum of 3 seconds before operating the window control switch or ignition switch.

Activate and hold the window control switch (with no interruptions) in the one-touch UP position (second detent) until the window glass stalls for 2 seconds into the glass top run and release the switch.
  1. Verify correct operation of the window by carrying out the one-touch up and one-touch down features. If the window does not operate correctly, carefully repeat this procedure.

That's nice. :emotions34:

Just what I needed, thanks.:33:

Indeed. As helpful as the "Microsoft Help Desk" in the Windows 95 era.

Reminds me of this old joke :

A helicopter pilot is giving a tour of Seattle to a bunch of German tourists. Suddenly, a dense fog comes over the city, reducing visibility to near zero. The pilot loses his position and the fuel is running low, so he needs to ask for directions for getting back to the helipad. He sees a tall building through the fog and flies near it. There is a bunch of office workers inside, looking at his hovering helicopter dumbfounded. The pilot proceeds to yell something at them, so they open the windows to hear him.

Pilot : "Excuse me, but I'm a little lost because of the fog! Could you please tell me where I am?!?"

Office workers : "You're in a helicopter!"

The pilot yells back "Thank you!" and flies away.

He then immediately finds his way back to the helipad and lands the helicopter without incident. The tourists, amazed at his amazing feat, ask him how he deducted his position from what the office workers yelled back at him.

Pilot : "Easy. I knew it was the Microsoft building, as only they would give you a truthful but completely useless reply".

I thought you were one of few (or 2) professional mechanics on here.

Too bad they told you where to begin.

Common prob though and I think it's only be on 2nd gen and up.

Ridiculous they make things so "programmed' complicated.

You can be a great mechanic and still not know the little tricks and hints when it comes to this electronic mumbo-jumbo stuff, so there is no shame.

Let's not forget that mechanics no longer fix modern cars and trucks, which have essentially become iPads on wheels... today they are called "technicians"!

That's old school cool, bud! From a time when a hard-working man could actually work on his own car / truck and get'er done!

You have my respect! :driver:

Not bugging. But throwing shit back up to you because you were the cocky one who said you were one of a few or maybe even two professional mechanics on this forum and told others to be nice because they might need you. Yet in a period of 5 days you come asking them for help.

If you hadn't have come across as so cocky and know-it-all mentality then I would have hardly noticed you were here and not been quick to call you out on crap.

Maybe it was all the back-and-forth discussion on diesel oil and mainly the fact that you couldn't leave people till choose to use diesel oil or say it offered fine protection and their gasoline engine if they wanted to.
You were insistent on criticizing them or condemning them for having this opinion. Maybe I just don't let things go.

But I am accurate, and call things as I see them.

It is how it is....

How long you been here? Maybe you're an acquired taste. Lol
I was on another Ford forum 10 years right before this and saw it all; the hecklers, know it all's, drama queens, helpers, haters, nice people, not so nice. That's like a 30 year on the force cop getting a new beat and a newby cop there says; "you're new here aren't you". lol

Kind of...but that new the beat cop should mind his manners and step softly for a while as he gets a feeling for the area.
If he walks in like he owns the place or knows all about it because he's "seen it all before" he's highly likely to get more pushback than if he was chill for a bit.

I admit when I am irritable and "having a Snickers moment".
So far, you have just doubled down and or made excuses.

Then you try to dismiss me with "don't bug me" as if I have no right to continue to post what I decide to say since you the all-knowing has already ruled on the matter.

I posted before you got here and will continue to do so with or without you here.
If I disagree with something, I will state that and we can agree to disagree unless you don't do that.
I don't try to change minds but I often tell people I don't see why they do certain things.
Some take it offensively. Most dont.
People will meet with nothing but resistance if they try to change my mind.

I respect that you come from an Excursion. The most capable SUV ever. King of the SUVs!
I've had a few of them and worked on a few more.

I welcome your Excursion experiences because I think hands on is the best. I just would hope it would be without a combative "my way or the highway" add on.

So let's fix some excursions.

1: common Abs light esp after backing up a good distance.
Changing rear axle center sensor usually didn't fix it.
No scan tool info available.

Thoughts? Experiences?

2: rear power SUV windows stick often.
Never checked to see if window on seal, motor, or switch.

Experiences?

3: do you still have an Excursion?
I have some parts and why does everyone want those giant stick out towing mirrors? Are the standard not large or long enough?

4: oh the dreaded weak power door locks!
I took mine out, cut the rivets off and opened them. Took pieces of the flat push in part of old fuses and bridged the part inside (maybe resistor...it was on 07) and they had tons of snapping power for almost 20 years.

Nothing else of top of head.
Still GREAT vehicles!

1 Never had a problem with the abs light
2 Just the rear wing windows stick
3 I think someone is going to buy it tomorrow.
4 Power door locks have a thermistor that prevents little kids from laying on the switch and burning up the motor, they heat up and shut off power before the motor quits. I threw all 5 of my thermistors out and crammed tin foil in there and that was 7 years ago. The locks get lazy first before they quit and might cost $1000 to fix at the dealer. Tin foil was maybe 20 cents.
5 Spark plugs fly out because there is only 3 threads in the heads in the earlier years.
6 Exhaust manifold studs break because they are too small in diameter and there's another $1000 in they break off in the head.
7 4WD operated from the dash always quit because the big expensive seal in the hubs leak air, air relay switch quits, and the dial on the hubs freeze up. Most people go the easy route and stick manual hubs in place of the automatic ones; bad idea. (I fixed mine so it operates from the dash, and completely rebuilt the 4WD plus both front U-joints.).
8 Running boards rust out when all else is unscathed.
9 Shifters get so loose you can't put into drive and everyone takes it to the dealer but tightening one bolt will fix it.
10 Heated seat wires burn up and some even catch on fire (rare).
11 All doors freeze shut in the winter around here
12 Water leaks onto the engine from the back of the hood, goes down into the heads, and causes it to miss.

I must say it's the best vehicle I ever owned and I had it 12 years, funny but I will hate to see it go tomorrow. :(
