I originally ordered an AFE unit for an F150 but it didn't fit and the one for the expidition was twice the price so I got the vortex unit that has a closed box that I'm liking better.
Without a tune you won't gain alot.
5star says they are all about the same

I’d be interested if one would let the turbos sing. I’ve been really let down by the lack of whistle. Coming from a diesel I’m used to hearing it spool up. Every so often I get just a small sound of it. Even under boost as says the gauge.

Even with an open lid box the turbos can’t make to much noise. They are so small compared to a diesel. You can vent the blow off to atmosphere. The Turbosmart plug and play makes a loud PHSsst sound for the same price as an intake. I had the S&B filter on my F-150. The fit and finish was great. No extra noise or power came from it though. The one posted above at least looks really cool.

I read the EB turbos are 51mm(only 2") Installing a new air box for noise, is one of the dumbist things I heard of in a while. The factory airbox may have an air silencer, that can be removed.

Yeah yeah... Beggers can't be choosers...
When you don't have an exhaust note you can really let sing, intake is the only other option and imho a better one because it is only noisy when you are getting on it. Size of turbo doesn't have nearly the same effect on noise as the piping to and from the turbo.

The intake silencers on my other vehicle are actually on the intercooler piping, if you still want more volume after the intake you might want to look into that. I probably won't bother until I upgrade the IC.

Thts the only thing you’ll get is noise, unless you’re tuned

@Dice Roll If all you want is more turbo whistle, I’ve had great success installing a drop-in K&N air filter into the factory box! More than likely isn’t going to provide as much whistle as a cold air intake, but for $40 and a trip to Walmart I couldn’t be happier.

Nope! I've been doing this to my cars since I was 16 and had a 2.0T VW. The only time I ruined a MAF sensor was after 38K miles I decided I'd re-oil the K&N air filter myself and installed it with too much oil on the filter.

Now I just buy a new K&N air filter every 25K miles or so and drop it in to avoid that issue. Wasteful? Probably, but the way I see it it's much cheaper than a cold air intake and worry-free compared to re-oiling. I'm at 12K miles on my Expy with the K&N installed since the 2nd day.

Light coat of oil and leave it in the sun to soak in. Touch up any 'light spots'. K&N filters work better a little dirty(sounds crazy). They recommend 50K before cleaning. Save the old filter to use while cleaning and oiling the K&N. Some believe this filter lets grit into engine. SCT tuners have a setting for K&N airfilters on the Mustang.

I put a brand new K&N in my Tahoe and within 3 weeks the MAF went. Dealership blamed the filter, I contacted K&N and told them and a rep called me wanting the name of the service advisor and the dealership number. Supposedly he was going to call them and tell them they were full of 'poop' , that was about 13-14 years ago and I honestly don't remember what became of it. I was still pretty new to town and didn't know them all like I do now.

hmm. I put one on my trans am when it was new and the maf wasn’t happy. Switched to some fram paper one. That was the hot ticket back then. I raced and confirmed it let more air in with my time slips and of course no maf issues. I told people back then it was as bad at filtering air as their ****** oil filters, which I’d never use.

I think with either a k and n or a high flow paper, you’ll let some grit in. Not sure how much is the tipping point for killing an engine. They all seem to go for many hundreds of thousands of miles these days so a few more hp or mpg might be worth chopping off that last ten thousand miles or so.

wtf!!!! I just looked this up and it’s on sale at summit for 575 ******* dollars. This thing has plenty enough power that I’ll hang onto that cash. And I’m about as big a gear head as you’ll find. Juice not worth the squeeze. I bet you’ll be lucky to see 15 hp from that. If even.

ive had success over the years chopping away air baffles for free. I’ve bought a lid for like 100 bucks that also took out a big baffle on an ls1, and I’ve gone to a cone type filter and better sealed same size pipe to turbo inlet on an old 7.3 for like 150 bucks. 575 is a lot for that deal, and the list price is way outta hand.

Guess I won't tell you how much I spent on the CF intake for my Audi... And I got a deal too... Times is changin.... I bet you spent less than $100 on an exhaust too. The good 'ol days... When V8s were simple and power gains were easy.

But did it add any power? Drop some weight? No one has made any major HP gains over the Ford engineers. Unless you do more work to the motor to make it need more air. They all are pretty much eye candy. I personally love bling and would buy the one shown just because of the blue pipes or get the one that has the cool pipes and twin open filters for ultimate flash.

You can tune the 5.0l in the Mustang for the drop in K&N. Without a tune, the computer will just adjust fuel trim, to compensate for the additional airflow. I am getting about 18.6mpg in my 2011 Mustang. I was getting around 18.1 before. The wide open throttle response is incredible.
