Excuse me guys for these questions.

I’ve seen many videos showing that power increase with K&N filters is around 5% (Engineering Explained), but it has significantly lower filtration capability (Project Farm).

Wouldn’t that contaminated-air damage the turbos in a boosted engine?

Plus, I see that our air intake is pretty far away from the engine, so what is the benefit of aftermarket air intake??

IGnore LOKIWOLF, he is an EXPLORER owner/driver. He trolls this forum. He makes exaggerated claims and thinks he knows more than Ford Engineers.

I OWN BOTH. I put more miles behind the drivers seat of our Expedition than most. Yes, it is the Wife’s primary vehicle, and I have never hidden that. I am sure all the posters on this forum, all drive their Expy’s daily. Not a single One is driven by their wife...[emoji849]. I drove the Expy all day today. Wife had to go downtown and park in a Parking Garage...with a lower than average height requirement. So she took the Explorer.

Have you worked on an EB in an Expedition? I have. 3 to be exact. The 15 I owned for 2 years that was totaled, the 17 I owned for 3+ years, and now the 2020. I have proven I ACTUALLY know what I am talking about.

I have spent more time logging on these Motors than most Tuners. This is my 5th EB powered Ford SUV, including my previous Daily Driver a 16 Edge Sport, and my Current Daily a 20 Explorer ST(Fastest one in the Country Currently with a 3.75 0-60 and a 11.97 1/4 on ONLY an E50 Tune). I have NEVER said otherwise.

I come on here to help other EB Expedition owners. You come on here to tell those of us that want to improve the performance of them, that we have no clue. Move along.

The guy is probably one of your friends or neighbors just trolling you for fun.

I personally can’t wait to see it installed. Just because I like bling under the hood and I know they don’t do much. But this guy is on a roll. We may see a post. “just bought a big turbo kit and injectors”. Hahaa. I use to spend tens of thousands on my diesel trucks. Just because it was fun and most gear heads are fun cool people. Unless their trolls. We all know who the trolls are.

That REALLY is the magic question. One that @302Xplorer is trying to partially answer.

I use an AFE Dry drop in, have in all 5 of my EB powered SUV’s, and my TDI’s before that. My 2 Powerstokes before that had Volant intakes, also an after market dry media, not oiled.

Never had a single Turbo issue. My Powerstrokes both had 90,000+ miles on them, my 06 TDI had 160,000 when I traded it in on my 13 TDI, which I put 93,000 on. All of them had after market drop in filters before 10K.

I like the aftermarket media because I can clean, and put back in, less waste personally.

All of us are curious to see what the logging shows us.

[emoji38] My neighbors know better.

@302Xplorer and I just figured out we are almost neighbors live on the same side of town and everything. Probably within a few miles of each other.

Same on the diesel trucks. I miss them, but not the cost of maintaining them!

I think if the IC is as good as I think it is going to be, the new Intake might compliment it well.

Are you seeing power and or mpg gain from the dry media?

or just cost savings on filters?

How is the sound on the vortex?

There is very little out there for sound clips on Expi/Navis...
Sorry just saw this. The vortex is definitely louder than stock but not ridiculous . I'm very happy with it.probably quieter than open filter units. But you could leave the clear plastic cover off and breath in more air but hot.

Did you go with an open or closed filter?
So sorry, just saw this. Open. But technically they are designed with a rubber molding that effectively seals the top against the underside of the hood, thereby basically creating sealed. My last vehicle I had a fully enclosed one for a while, too much of a pain to get the filter out for cleaning.

originally open, but i'm in a super dry dusty environment and I hated the way the previous one worked. I couldn't get the filter out without disassembling part of it. So a year or so ago I switched the closed Corsa intake, and I absolutely love it. the new filter is staying a lot cleaner. It did reduce the turbo noise a bit, as one would imagine being closed. Love it though, looks so much more professional.

Removing the factory intake this morning!

I found something interesting; what are these things?
Do you all take them out or leave them in place?

Logically, it actually kind of makes sense. Assuming the fins produce a spiral effect in the same clockwise direction as the impeller spins, this could help reduce lag a tad. If the air is only flowing one direction without the spin, then I would think mechanically the impeller would have a little more (like milliseconds) lag. Sort of like the difference between a rolling start and a standing start. Just my hunch but maybe nothing to it.

Are you tuning it and putting high flow fuel pump and injectors in? The stock intake in modern cars typically have flow rates higher than the stock fuel system can support with tune modifications
