2017 EL and my fans sound so much louder than other Expys I see and listen to. Coolant level is great and engine or tranny temp don’t really change significantly even when sitting. I added 5 star tune and cold air intake.

My are really loud. I think it is just a poor design. I've had to shut down the engine at a drive through.

Mine are very loud, turning on is especially frequent when running rear AC.
This is what happens when it’s super hot out and the engine is trying to cool itself down quickly. It’s normal unless you have the HD tow package with larger radiator

My wife’s is a limited normal length and mine is a EL with HD tow. I have 5 star tune, CAI, and 170 tstat and mine is quiet as a whistle. Even before the tune and tstat it would only seldom turn on at high last on super hot days but Thts bc I have had tow package

I have a 2017 Limited EL w/ HD Tow. The fans sounds like a jet engine when idling in high temps. Houston has high humidity, so it takes a lot of work to cool the interior with all the moisture.

Got my '15 XLT in March in Florida coming from a '16 Tundra.

Once I hit the summer months I noticed the fan started going into "jet take off" mode. I can hear the thing idling when I remote start it from a good 50+ yards away. It's insanely loud. I mentioned it to my Service advisor when I had it in for Service and she said it was normal.

I had a 17 EL and the fan was super loud. I now have a 14 Limited and the fan sounds the exact same. That leads me to believe it’s normal

Another HD tow package 2017 EL here with super loud fans mainly when ambient temp is 90*F +. Mainly notice it while idling sitting still running Max A/C front and rear. I’m glad that it speeds up to warp speed while no air is moving across radiator, trans. cooler, A/C condenser, and inner cooler to prevent heat soak on everything. My wife has commented about it being loud ,but like I told her I’ll take loud over overheating any day. That’s one major plus electric fans have over mechanical fans, they can speed up well past the engine rpms when needed to keep the cooling system within its temp range.

Probably one reason they went to them on later cars. My last 2 trucks didn't blow cold AC air until it was moving. The fan clutch helps but not enough.

Yes but once it opens it's all rad so it makes no difference. Messing with t-stats is not a good idea in these computer controlled vehicles.
@07navi and @OGBobbyJohnson the 170 tstat works perfectly. Prior to install my coolant temps would spike to 225-230 during WOT pulls and driving in the heat. Installed a 170, which is programmed into my tuning device to open earlier, thus successfully knocking my WOT temps down to below 195. I have not seen above 195 in almost a year since install and that’s in 100+ degree weather also. In order for it to function properly you will need a custom tune. Just putting a 170 in on stock tune will do nothing

Same with my 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4, purchased new - very loud, roaring fans. I returned it to the dealer and was told it was normal. There is no mention in the vehicle owner’s manual of excessive noise from the fans under certain conditions.
