When I bought my 04 EB 4x4 expy it came with an aftermarket K&N air induction system on it and I'm not fond of oiling and dealing with the K&N filters at all. I bought an OEM intake system from a salvage yard but am having an issue due to a piece missing apparently. There are 2 hoses that attach to the intake neck next to the throttle body. One of them is the PCV valve hose from the valve cover, and I don't know what the other one is. Apparently there is supposed be hose adapter of some sort on the 2nd hose in order for it to connect to the air intake tube, but that is missing. Does anyone have a diagram of that so I can show what I'm looking for, or know what that adapter is called and maybe where I could find it?

Thanks!

Hi Dudeth, I'm not trying to be snarky or mean but why not go back to the salvage yard and look and or ask for their help? Not all 5.4 intakes are the same from what I've seen. But the Lincoln and F150 might have the piece you need still.

As for the K&N, I personally won't own an engine without one. The one I have in my 04 right now is at least going on five years without being cleaned. I live 2-1/2 miles off a paved road on lime rock gravel and the filter is coated with dust about a quarter inch thick. It flows as good now as it ever has and likely is stopping more dust as a result of the buildup. I, of course, can't prove it flows as good now, but I can say I have noticed a recent uptick in my fuel mileage from 14.7 to 15.3. A plugged air filter I think won't go in that direction. But, I may be wrong with these new fangled fuel injected engines. BTW- it just turned 230K on Sunday morning. YMMV

I don't do this but was considering it...buying a second filter to hold in reserve so when one is being cleaned the clean one can be installed with no waiting. Just a thought for now.

Are you talking about the tube that feeds the idle air control valve at the back of the throttle body ? I installed a Volant cold air intake on mine when it was new and used the stock tube assembly to feed the IAC valve. You can see it in the picture below.
If you need that tube assembly you can still get it from Ford or order it online https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/ford-tube-assembly-2l1z9h308ba

Part number is : Ford 2L1Z-9H308-BA

Or, you can just keep the K&N setup and order a dry filter element to replace the oiled one you don't want any more. They offer both versions.

Yes! The IAC valve. I didn't know what it was. Thank you for that picture, I can see exactly what I'm missing in your picture and it is the little adapter / fitting at the end of the top hose. I have the tube assembly but not the adapter.

Unfortunately I have been unable to locate a dry filter that matches the filter I have. I've checked K&N's site and everywhere else and I couldn't find another manufacturer that would work either.

Thanks a lot for that!

I ordered the parts from a salvage yard online as I couldn't find what I needed locally unfortunately. I'm not a fan of K&N filters from my research into people's detailed experiments with their filtration ability and already have the OEM parts at this point. I had considered buying second filter but I can't bare the thought of giving K&N $60 for one of their filters. Thanks for your response!

So you have the idle air control valve on the back of the throttle body right ? You're just missing that inline baffle/muffler piece in the feeder tube ? That comes as part of the tube assembly. It's about $15 for the whole assembly online or at the dealer. That's that whole part Ford 2L1Z-9H308-BA .

Hmmm, could you point me in the direction of those experiments you mentioned? I've used K&N for near 40 years, I know they aren't perfect but I'd like to see what new info is out there.

I know Four Wheeler mag did a test on them decades ago, and so did Four Wheel & Off-road mag among other others. I was convinced at that time but as times change so does the quality of the parts these companies offer and it's seldom for the better since as manufacturing is always looking to reduce costs quality often follows.

However, in their defense, the filter is most effective with an oiled foam sleeve over it. That's the pre-filter (sort of like the two filters on a lawn tractor or diesel engine). I know many folks that don't use one and have less than desirable results, mostly while trying to clean the filter. K&N should include one with every filter but unless they recently started that (within the last decade) I guess they still don't?

Nevertheless, this is straying off topic and getting close to being a high-jacked thread.
