I removed the headliner 07 expedition.

Anyone know what this cable is? There is one on both sides (driver/passenger side) & runs the entire length of the vehicle.

I need to remove the padding that it is in. It takes up way too much room.

However, it would be nice to know what it is and why so much padding.

I search the internet and couldn't find anything related to it.

Which cable? You’re not talking about the white padding (side air bags)? What are you doing that it takes up too much room?

Oh Crap. It's an air bag. That makes far more sense now.

I'm removing everything (except the dash) and going to spray LizardSkin insulation / add an inch of Polyiso insulation.

If I remove them, will I have an airbag light stuck on?

I'm never an advocate for removing airbags. And yes, if you remove it you will definitely have an airbag light stuck on. Also, if you ever are in an accident where airbags need to deploy your insurance will mean squat. ALSO, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to tamper with any factory airbag system.
Those are just my two cent takes.

You should really rethink what you are doing there boss. Those airbags are there for a reason. The headliner is part of the system as well. Maybe some stick on insulation in selected locations would make more sense.

How is the headliner part of the system?

No matter what, I'm removing them to at least spray the lizardskin and put in the polyiso. I could modify my plan slightly and reinstall them.

You're inevitably going to hurt yourself one way or another.

Wanna bet?

Pulled the fuse on the RCM.
Disconnected negative on battery to discharge capacitor.
Disconnected the wiring to airbags.
All that's left to do is unbolt them.

What is the purpose of tearing all of this out and coating the roof? I know lizardskin is a sound deadening but will it make enough of a difference to warrant this amount of work? Honestly never seen anyone use it though I feel like the roof is fairly quiet with the thickness of the headliner already.

Put it all back, forget it, and move on. You can't even sell your car with an airbag light showing, or with it hacked up like that. Drive with ear plugs and be light years ahead.

I'm spaying it with the LizardSkin heat control, not the sound dampening. I'm spraying the entire inside except behind dashboard. The dashboard is the only thing I'm not removing, as that's more work than I want to do. I need to remove the airbags to be able to properly spray it. I can put them back in afterward.

You indicated above that you might simply remove them altogether, so yeah, I would take that bet. :)

That would be my preference as I removed all the rear seats and they won't be going back in. It would be cool if there was a way to just put back in for front seats. I originally took out the passenger seat but put it back in because I got tired of looking at the airbag light on. So yea, I'm just going to modify my plan slightly and put them back in, so the light won't be on.

Are you gutting the vehicle to use for camping or is it all getting reassembled and just trying to control temp better? I feel like a missed a thread or post somewhere...

Yes, I'm turning it into a camper. No you didn't miss a post. I never mentioned why I was doing it.

Got it. Makes more sense now. I mean, if you aren't going to have passengers, the curtain bags aren't likely to do much. They may even be a liability depending on the rest of the design you have planned, not knowing precisely how they deploy they could end up rocketing something around the vehicle. I'm probably not the only one thinking this was going to be on the road w passengers, likely why all of the pushback on modifying them in the first place.

You should make a thread showing what the plan is, and progress. Always interesting to see something unique.

Yea, there will never be anyone in the back while driving. If I was putting the rear seats back in and there would be passengers, I wouldn't even consider removing them. That would just be stupid.
