Looks like Ford will have another home run on its hands. They're really on a roll with this F150 Hybrid, Mach E, Bronco, and now the F-150 lightning.

300 miles of range (not really enough for towing long distance, but great for fleets and short tripping)
10K towing
52K for the XLT trim
Yuuuuuge Frunk
Dual charger? Not sure how this works. Kia does 210 miles on the EV6 using 350kW
Mid 4s 0 - 60. Pretty good for a truck
2,000lbs of payload...must be a base trim
9.6kW inverter

If they can actually get the batteries to build these things, they will sell like hotcakes. The only will to beat it will be to offer substantially more range.

Charging stats - high-end home can add 30miles/hour charge, max 300 mile, high-end commercial station can charge 54 miles in 10 min or bring vehicle from 15 to 85% in 45 min, can easily see towing 100-150 miles between stations, resting 30 minutes, repeat until end of day. They offer 2k payload. integrating hitch control, navigation, sensors, weather, and payload scale to accurately predict electric towing range. Looks good but really depends on gvwr options at specific trims and if you can get 1700lb payload with decent features.

Concern is ev charging stations not designed for towing, until there are fast charging stations setup at every pilotj, its going to be a tradeoff....heck, biggest compelling reason to get diesel with trailer is the big truck line designed for trailer pulling rest breaks between campground sites.

As for Expedition, I'd upgrade in a minute if they could bring over features from lightning while keeping luxury and improving towing.

The new Interior is gorgeous minus the plastic holding up the screen. I wish ford would add the rearview mirror monitor and hud, but if the ride is better than current, I'm def down for a new expy.

I wonder how long it will take to make the Expedition version. If Ford doesn't do it, they'll be facing competition from Rivian in that space very soon. Based on the Lightning price, Ford can probably come in cheaper than Rivian. I would need a Powerboost version anyway. Need more than 300 miles to tow my trailer.

Its a real pickle now for those of us who are only towing with expedition but wanting to upgrade to bigger trailer or want to add a truck for safer travel.

All the great innovation is currently in half ton space which expedition provides much of the same power, but is mostly limited by wheelbase and downgraded hitch receiver (900-930lbs).

On other hand, the 1 ton trucks are essentially still using 2015 type tech and design with the only imminent upgrade being the new sync screen in 2022 superduty. Thats a start but not really enough.

That's part of my reason to wait this out a bit, very happy with my Expedition as a tow vehicle but I'm not really a fan of the HD power train options for towing. If you tow over 12k lbs get the diesel of course but the lack of something more efficient for when I'm not towing are not ideal. Powerboost is a great trailering platform but for now 1/2 ton only.

Exactly. I have a 29ft 6-7k lbs normally loaded trailer, about max for what is reasonable with expy...but the trailer is a toyhauler with huge cargo capacity not being used (9300lb gvwr). I have to be close to perfect with wdh to keep within expy payload and hitch, should really be using 1 ton.... but I'm not going to buy an 80k Superduty to keep forever using obsolete tech. I inquired about leasing just 3yrs until redesign out with Ford dealer and they laughed at me...would cost more than buying new (2k/month).
At this point, as long as wheelbase, payload, and hitch receiver are all upgrades over the expy...and I don't camp that often...the lightning seems a much much more useful vehicle with pure bev, minimal maintenance, and builtin generator and lights, plus the latest platform updates for autonomous driving and intelligently towing. Only question is if we can get it in next gen expedition form factor as our family loves full size SUV (we have two 80lb huskies that can take back seats for themselves).

A 230 mile range just ain't gonna cut it, and $90k for Platinum to get the extra 70 miles ? Good luck. Then you still have to deal with Ford's rust issues and crummy paint jobs....

The US utility grid won't be able to keep up with charging all these EV in the coming years. Will the US build more nuke plants? No. Then the renewables won't be able to do it.

Exactly. Look what happened in Texas when their "renewable" wind turbines and solar panels couldn't operate after that winter storm. Can you imagine half the country experiencing that, and trying to recharge these EV vehicles ? And it's not like these lithium battery assemblies come from thin air or grow on trees. They require enormous material mining and production costs. Produced where? In factories power by what ? Nuclear, coal, oil ....
