Hello,

First time owner of Expedition and have been happy with the purchase so far. I recently got 2020 XLT 202a package (leather interior, panoramic moon roof , power liftgate, minor other blings etc) as a second owner. The mileage is around 57K and under extended premium care warranty until 2025 (or 200,000KM). Any/all recalls listed so far are already applied by the previous owner.

After almost 2 months of usage I have some observations / recurrent issues for which I would appreciate your guidance and experience.

1. At random time intervals, the power liftgate refuses to close down with the button. It does open correctly with the handle button and remote, however when I press the button for motorized closing, it stays put and has to be pushed down manually to be closed. It has happened second time in a row. Got it fixed 1st time from the dealership - however after 2-3 weeks it exhibits the same behavior. When pressing the button it gives a single beep and moves slightly sometimes - however doesn't go all the way. I have tried cleaning sensors on the back side pillars and in between the hinge areas, there is nothing obstructing the path to closure or lock mechanism however it just randomly stops working. I have not tried any reset of the liftgate mechanism by pulling out the fuse.

2. There is an audible clattering sound from the panoramic roof when it is closed, while driving on uneven road. Like the moving parts (glass - sliding cover - roof) have a bit of play and make vibrating sounds - feels like any rubber lining for sound damping is worn off. Does it happen normally or is it expected to have some play and any possible solution for it. The sound may not be noticeable to average passenger - but remains a concern for me.

3. The lane guidance system - two dotted lines within the digital dash panel - sometimes keep exhibiting random behavior. Even when the lane guidance is on, the lines remain gray - then sometimes they light up as green and start functioning if lane departure is sensed. However their function seems like uncertain and not reliable to keep behaving as expected always. Does it require any specific lighting conditions , specific type of road markers , and clean sensor position to correctly detect the lane adherence. Any ideas or similar experiences. Where is this sensor located - i believe in front center portion of dashboard under the wind screen.

4. The petrol average for (91 RON) in my typical city driving conditions (hot weather) is around 6.7 KM/l , is it ok or too low.

5. While pressing the pedal, from a slow 30-40 speed, there is sometimes a slightly rough vibrating feeling on the pedal while the turbo kicks (with a bit of lag) and the car shoots to higher gears and speed. It normalizes once it is intended range of fast speed. Is it normal and expected.

6. There are some slight vibrating click-clack sounds on uneven roads coming from the 2nd Row and beyond. Like maybe the seat belt metal latch is clacking against the plastic trim of the interior side body. I was more expecting a totally noise free experience and drive. Are these and similar slight vibration sounds normal and notice by other drivers as well.

Thanks for reading my detailed post and sharing your opinion and knowledge.

Regards.

On #3, the lane departure system only functions above 40mph...so if you're below that speed they will remain grey. The sensor is in the rearview mirror housing:

It is blocked or dirty, the guage cluster should give you an alert that the system is unavailable.

Got it, will check it on my way back from work today, if the lights become alive only after 40MPH. Probably the lane divider markers may have to do something with it as well. For some roads lane markers (white/yellow) are painted on, some other have cat-eyes pegged in the roads as dividers. I could be wrong, will check anyways.

Have you recently changed out your windshield? If so, you might have needed to recalibrate the sensors up there. That might help explain the erratic sensor behaviour?

Well no, touch wood - to my info and car service history from the dealership the wind screen is stock factory and not touched. I dread of a time when I have to get it replaced - which usually happens in case of grave damage :)

In continuation of the thread, I did try a feature which apparently doesn't work for my vehicle. It is for remote button combination for auto start - turning on the A/C and lowering down all windows to vent out the hot accumulated inside, before the driver steps in.

I did try the button combo as guided in the manual, however it doesnt work. The auto ignition start works - however it also remains in a intermediate stage where the driver still have to press the start button upon ingress (which probably kills purpose of auto start - since the driver will press start button anyways without auto star).

Is it only available in higher trims and not in XLT.

Can anyone try and share their experience.

Thanks.

It’s a safety feature. All vehicles once remotely started will require you to push the start button to gain full functionality and drive away.

Sure this is what I thought as well.

I was more keen to know about the below, which somehow wasnt working on my 2020 XLT. Is it something reserved for Limited / Platinum trims, or something which can be act/deactivated by specific firmware version. Can try to check with my dealership accordingly.
