Any one else have an issue with the horn cover split along the line where the airbag would deploy?

Went to the dealer and they said to fix I need entire airbag assembly. that's 330 bucks. Another solution?

Do you sound your horn often, or hit the horn pad hard?

Seems to me like a safety issue with the airbag, i.e. it's now exposed and the material could become damaged. My understanding is a dealer or repair shop can't knowingly render an airbag inoperable, so to me it's on Ford to replace that for safety reasons. I don't care how much you use your horn, I've seen 20yr old airbags on old dodges etc that are still perfectly intact.

New Ford vehicles come with a separate warranty for the restraint system.

Read your warranty folder - it may be covered if you’re within the mileage & time limits.

try ford customer care, worst that can happen is the decline it. but I would argue this is a safety system and concern. There's no way that should have come apart, the amount of force it should take to split that is quite a bit, so to me it's a mfr defect.

My horn cover just recently cracked when I honked the horn. My Expedition is a 2020 Platinum model that I purchased used in March 2023. It has 59K miles on it. When I took it to the dealer in Atlanta, they quoted me a little over $1800 to replace the entire steering wheel (parts and labor). I asked about just replacing the airbag assembly, but I have not received a response yet—any advice would be appreciated. Please see the image below.

That's odd that the airbag cover cracked. My previous vehicle was a 2010 F-150 XLT with the basic vinyl steering wheel. One the nine years I owned it, it was parked outside in the Arizona sun more than it was garaged. The steering wheel began to delaminate but the air bag cover still looked good. Scoured the web and found a leather Lariat steering wheel offered by Tasca Ford on eBay that was compatible and cheaper than a new XLT one would have been.

exactly happened to my 2019 as well, 75k miles.... i barely use the horn but i think it cracked on a cold day. dealership replaced the airbag assembly, covered it under ESP. Note that as far as i understood, they did NOT replace the entire wheel - just the airbag assembly (which included the cover).

They don't need to replace the entire steering wheel, that's overkill and overpriced. Only the Steering Wheel Air Bag Module (Part #: FL3Z15043B13AF) needs replaced...much cheaper. See here: https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/e...g-wheel-air-bag-module-p-fl3z15043b13af?pdp=y . I've replaced several air bag modules on Fords and other makes and they are not that difficult...if you follow the appropriate safety procedures.
