It seems that my remote does not work while the truck is running. Is that normal? In my line of work, it would be nice to be able to leave the truck running and lock the doors and just use the remote to unlock them.

It is the factory system. My buddy can do this with his Crown Vic, which is why I think it's possible.

Not sure on other generations of the Expedition but on the first gen if the ignition is on then the remote will not work.

BUT here is the good news!!!! If you know your door pin pad code then you can do exactly what you are wanting to ( if you don't know the code look up under the dash above the e brake and you will see it on the module).

With the pin pad you can actually leave the truck running and push the last 2 buttons to lock all doors, and when you are ready to get back in then just enter your code on the pin pad and your drivers door will unlock and of course if you want all the doors to unlock just add the #3 after your code.

Its a safety thing. I will lock when I press it and then unlock automatically while the key is in the ignition. If you trust where you leave it (and dont have the pin pad) then try just leaving the drivers window down and lock the door by hand when you exit.

If I trusted where I leave it, I wouldn't need to lock it, or leave it running. I take my truck into situations where I am not always welcomed and I might need to get out of there quickly.

Sometimes I have to go where I lose sight of the truck. I'd like to be able to secure it without shutting it off.

You guys are in luck. The ford dealership informed me that for about $100 you can get the keyless pad installed on your rig as long as you have the remotes already set up on the truck.

Consider a remote start system then. You can take the keys out and leave it running and still lock the doors.... Or just start it while you are running to it.

There has to be a way to disable the feature that won't allow the remote to work while its running.
