WEIRD….took a relatively long road trip 600+ miles.
On a whim the day after the trip I tried the remote start with the fob…..it worked….started right up!
What the fix was I have no clue…except maybe the new batteries, even though it didn’t work the day I put them on…..but I’ll take it!
Thanks to all who responded with suggestions.

Here's more to consider, as this happens a lot with mine. For some reason, this happens anytime there's a code of some kind in the system. It seems overly picky. For example, anytime I return my vehicle back to factory tune, even though the last step of the process is to clear all codes, remote start won't work. I have to disconnect the batter for a few minutes, plug it back in, then remote start immediately works.

Just even a few days ago, after getting the phasers replaced yet again, remote start isn't working. In this case, a tech forgot to plug in a sensor, which caused a CEL and code to fly, which they cleaned up but it still won't remote start. I guarantee if I just go unplug the battery for a few minutes and plug it in, remote start will work just fine.

That’s great info. I’ll be aware in the future if my remote start “fails” again to check codes and try the battery disconnect.

I know this sounds dumb, but you may want to disconnect the cables, and clean the connection with one of those wire brushes.
I had crazy problems with my older Expedition, replaced the battery, and it helped for a while, until it got stuck in the garage, and I couldn't get it to move.
I actually replaced the PCM and had new keys cut, and it still wouldn't start, Went back to the basics, and cleaned the terminals, and it started right up.

Not dumb at all. When I replaced the battery the connectors were cleaned with a wire cleaner and of course the new battery terminals were new but the technician also roughed them up with brush just to be sure of good contact.

When this happens, try this. This worked for me.

Start the car while sitting in it with the remote. Hold the 2X button for ten seconds while the car is running.

Chimes will sound an alarm.

It should work now.

Thanks. The remote start began working after I replaced the battery on the Expedition. Even though the battery tested “OK” at the shop, it showed low amps so I replaced. That said, I will remember your advice for future reference, you never know when these different technologies on vehicles will loose their minds!

While my remote start was working my auto start stop wasn’t (which I don’t like but I wanted to know why it wasn’t working) I had battery tested bc it kept saying it was charging when it was supposed to be stopped. I had it “tested” along with my alternator several places. Everywhere said yep it’s good. I could charge it at home and it would work for a day then right back to not working. I finally replaced the battery and after I reset the sensor everything worked as is.

Moral to my story is… these things are extremely picky with the battery. Glad you got it fixed !

Yes they are sensitive. Lots of “electronic gadgets”. It’s certainly a learning process. I’m still trying to figure out why the outside keypad will not light up a function. I’ve gone down all the “rabbit holes” that may be the issue. Have yet to find the source of problem. Not that I would actually used the keypad much at all! It’s just my, if it’s there it should work mindset.

LOL….of course….my first car was a 1955 Ford. I learned how to work on cars….you know Fix Or Repair Daily! Simple days with mechanical stuff….learned a lot. Now….you have to have a degree in computer science and analyzing equipment to diagnose the issues…just saying!

I've been running around saying "The transmission is there, it should work!" :D
