Anyone have this type of transmission leak? And what is ford doing to take care of it?

It’s leak at the rear of the transmission where it meets the transfer case.

It’s a 2024 with about 2000 miles on it … :(

It has a few drips, no puddles yet. I have an appointment with the dealer on Monday. I’ve wiped it off for the past two days and it keeps showing up.

Did you just have it in for service recently? Did you just recently drive it like you stole it? Mine was fine when I bought it until about 300 miles later I drove it down to Mexico and was passing some people at over 110mph. When I got to the destination, we put it up on a lift to check things over and noticed tranny fluid sprayed all down the underside and drops hanging from the rear trans pan bolt heads. When I took it back in to have them check it, fluid levels were "fine." My suspicion is that they had overfilled it at the dealer when doing the prep when I bought it. I have so little confidence in dealer service at this point they should be ashamed.

Nope, bought it new and have driven it easy so far, I haven’t passed 3500 rpm’s yet.

I, too, am worried about taking it in for service to have them check it out as I have 0 faith in the service department.

I know it vents when overfilled, I have a diaper full of it on mine. I don't know where it vents on the tranny, mine was all over the stabilizer bar. It is a super complicated fill procedure with the dip stick next to the cat so you can burn the hell out of your hand getting it off when it is "warm".

So I just heard back from the dealer, and they are saying that they believe the transmission may have been overfilled from the factory and that the fluid came from the vent tube.

How legit is this?

Is the vent tube near the rear of the transmission? And the venting would show drips in the area of where the pictures in my original post show the drips?

If they "believe" that it overfilled, then they should drain it all out and then refill with correct amount. Then, you can take it home and drive for a while. If no more phantom leaks then the dealer was correct in what they believed in. If it leaks again, its another trip to the dealer with CONFIRMATION it was not the initial transmission factory fill. Any good service advisor should offer this drain and refill to confirm

I think they cant find where leak is and just guessing now

I do not think this is a legitimate diagnosis and repair. It is guessing. You got the brush-off.

There is Ford service procedure on how to check the transmission fluid level - did they do that? If so, what was the level?

They’re going to check the level tomorrow after they drive it and get back to me. I will ask about this when speak to them again.

Based on your subsequent posts, that sounds like it was a guess. This frustrates the heck out of me. Why would a service writer guess and relay that guess to the customer? Ford has a simple and well-documented procedure for checking the transmission oil level. It's in the service manual. IMHO a service writer with any brains would have had a tech follow the procedure and relay the results to the customer. The service writer should not be pulling guesses out of their butt when talking to the customer.

Well, duh. That should have been done already.

Sorry for the rant. I have no tolerance for stupid or lazy dealership service writers.

Picked it up. They’re sticking to the story. Idk what else to do, I guess I’ll keep an eye on it and see if I keep seeing the drips.

They said if I see more of the fluid they would dig in deeper.

They mentioned taking the transfer case out and checking the rear seal? Any idea of the validity of this?

Removing the transfer case is a valid way to visually inspect or remove/replace the rear transmission seal.

But, I think I would press them to verify the fluid level in the transmission using the procedure outlined in the service manual. That's the only way to know if the fluid has dropped below the specified level. As it is, they are setting you up for a major failure IMHO. I would want the dealer to give me some confidence that my transmission has the proper fluid level.

Or, take your vehicle to a different Ford dealer. Tell them you think your transmission is leaking. Ask them to see if they can determine where the leak is coming from. Ask them to verify that your transmission has the proper fluid level. Don't taint the conversation with a lot of additional explanation. State your observation and ask the two questions.

What was the in and out mileage on your service ticket? IMO they should have cleaned it off, checked it in the stall running, then driven it at least 5-10 miles to verify no leaks if none identified while idling.

Mileage in was 3116 and out was 3119. I guess I’m going to follow up with them on Monday smh. Why would they not want to do the proper procedures? In the long run they’re gonna be the ones doing a bigger job if the transmission fails…

Just a quick update, the dealer is bsing, I just got under the car and see the same drips at the rear of the transmission where it connects to the transfer case. Beyond frustrating.

I don’t see any other fluid anywhere else, so I believe their story about it he vent is straight ********.
