I've been looking at this unit for my '98 Expedition EB. The unit is bluetooth and gps ready. Do I need to buy an additional module for this service or what do I need to do? I really want the gps since we travel on a regular basis.

nope...nav should be on disc...or you'll have to buy nav unit...not sure...for bluetooth you'll have to buy the adapter and plug it in if it doesnt have it built in...go to their website and look up the unit and it'll give you all the info on it

On any radio, if its ready, there's a separate unit thats needed. If its built in, then all set. Pioneer's website will tell you what model #'s you will need for that radio for both gps and bluetooth. Then its just searching, buying and hooking up to radio then mounting.

Freeway can type on his computer faster and more accurate than I can on my phone.

You need a separate module for it. but get the 4300 not the 4200, from what im told the 4300 has a slightly better screen. and as far as a gps, I say go buy a Garmin. I hate gps's built into radios, they are allot of times very slow, im not saying that the one you want is, but keep that in mind.
Also i should probably mention i just bought the avh-4300dvd and frisking love it, it sounds good, looks good, and has a nice ipod interface, uou need to cut away about 1/4" from the top of where the radio mounts to get it to fit, and also if you get the metra install kit the little trim piece they give you wont fit right (you can use the install bracket though) take a look at mine.:

I got mine from a guy off craigslist, he had a trunk full of all sorts of fun car audio

I'm not a big fan of the GPS that requires a CD. They seem slow and innacurrate. My wifes Escalade has one and it's worthless. We bought a Garmin Nuvi and it's one of the best I've seen. Plus I think you can send directions and maps to your Garmin via Google Maps. If you get lost or need directions you could call your office and have them Google link it to your Garmin and away you go. Plus you can hook your phone to it and it has built in location of everythng like food, fuel, transportation, airports, medical stations etc. I would never go back. Garmin is the way to go for GPS.

i totally DISAGREE...i have pioneer avic-d3...navigation...the disc are accurate...the only problem is if there are "new" roads...housing divisions that havent been loaded...but you can buy or download the updated discs and youre good to go...i bought my HU in 2007 and i can get to any location that was updated for that time...once new establishments were created it was time to update...but the economy wasnt booming so it wasnt that bad...i have 2011 disc that were downloaded and i have no problems finding anything...my experience is that garmin is good but does take you to "wrong" locations as well...better if its built in and you can just hit update and it downloads updated info via satelite like my wifes 2011 altima...but im good with it...

Any gps will lie to you, i used to be a delivery driver, and i used alot of gps's-they were asighned to the truck.the biggest thing with any gps is they lie what side of the road something is on (doesn't matter what brand). I still say buy a dedicated gps though. I use a garmin nuvi 660 (it was a parting gift from the delivery job for the boss writing everybody a bad last check)

Ive used both and I would rather have the in dash as I dont have to have the GPS on the windshield and having to run a wire down the dash. Yes you can hide all that but with an in dash its already there. I run the Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my Expedition and my wife's CR-V. My Garmin is in the closet somewhere.
