Can you tell if Expy has tow package based off VIN?

Looking to buy a 2017 or 2018. I need the tow package because I have a 7000# camper. I looked at one the dealer claims has a tow package because it has a hitch. It only had a 4 pin connector. Can I tell if it has the factory tow package based off VIN?

For 2017 the "Class IV trailer tow receiver with 4-pin connector" is standard on the XLT. The "Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package" is standard on the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum and it will have 4-pin and 7-pin connectors. No 7-pin connector means no HD trailer tow package.

They all have a “tow package”, but you need one with the “heavy duty tow package”. Note also that for 2018 and 2019, all of them come with the 7 pin connector. For 2018/19, you can almost always spot the heavy duty towing package from the pictures: look for the trailer backup assist button/knob...

So most if not all of the XLT's don't have the HD tow? If so, that could be my problem. I haven't looked into other trims because I was trying to keep cost down.

So if all 2018/2019s' have the 7-pin, I can't use that to determine if its HD tow or not. I guess I'll have to look for that button.

All good info. I'm trying to decide if I should buy this year or next. My budget is around $25-$30k. My 2003 is still running well with 157k. I drive it most days to work. Right now the 2017's are in budget. If I wait 6 months to a year the 2018's will come down. The 2018's look to have a slightly better engine specs and the 10-speed transmission. My trailer is a Keystone Springdale 270le. It's almost 33ft long. I would think the 10-speed transmission would do better towing. Sometimes my 5.4 is hunting for gears at expressway speeds.

The HD tow package is available on the XLT's; but it's an added option. Look for the 7-pin connector or the oil cooler behind the grille.

As Trainmaster said, it's optional. The other aforementioned trims for that model year will always have it. The XLTs may or may not.

I believe if it has the max tow package it will have the 7 pin connector and trailer brake controller. They all have a receiver.
