I had the same problem with my 2003 XLT. I sprayed WD-40 on all door latch mechanisms (including rear window and tailgate) to get them all moving smoothly and the problem was solved. Good luck and I hope this helps.

It's a bad door sensor. You need to figure out which door. For me it was passenger/front. No amount of spray would work. I looked online and the sensor was $45. The heck with that! I unplugged the sensor and jumped it. Basically take some wire about 2 inches long. Strip both ends. Insert into socket the door sensor was plugged into. Tape everything up pretty good so it doesn't come loose. Put the door back together and you're good to go. Only downside is lights don't come on when passenger opens the door. Oh well, I can live with that.

With my lucky self mine was the back doors window lock one, I bypassed it wit a piece of wire and I am not using that window now. Door latches also have a switch on each door. If you can't loosened the switch with WD-40 you have to replace the whole doorlock.
