Looking more closely at the wheel...it appears there is a protective layer of chromed plastic around the edge of the wheel. That’s the part that peeled back and then the actual aluminum was scraped too. At first glance I thought the aluminum edge separated...but that’s not the case.

This is my first truck-based SUV so I’m still kind of in shock it’s not shaking at speed or tracking like it’s out of alignment. If this had been my Taurus or Flex...I’d be getting a new wheel and an alignment.

The only curb I ever hit I hit HARD while goofing off and leaving from an empty lot after work, back end got lose and came around. I smacked it hard enough to crack 2 spokes on my wheel, bend the lip, cut the tire in 2 places, damage a wheel bearing and tie rod. Tire was fine...structurally speaking. I drove it about 25mph for 6 miles home. Wheels and tires are considerably stronger than you would think.

Now if this is a tow vehicle and you load up close to max weight I personally would replace just for peace of mind.

Plus of all that is I learned the limit of my car that day, never hapoend again. Gotta pay to play sometimes!

Don't take advise from this forum based on your photo. Go to a reliable tire shop and have them check it.
Give yourself and family peace of mind even if it means buying a new wheel and tire.

Aluminum wheels don’t bend they break.
If it appears bent it’s broken. My wife ran over a rock In her fusion and destroyed a wheel in a ver similar way. It held air but it was very much broken. Ebay wheel was 1/2 the price of a dealer wheel.

shantheman, There is a wheel repair company that does refinishing and repair. Alloy Wheel Repair Specialties in Independence MO. Website is www.awrsmidwest.com Amazing what they can do there and they do a lot of classic car wheels. I had them remove some scratches from a vintage set of Kelsey Hays wheels, repaint the centers and sprayed in a semi clearcoat. While I was at their shop I watched them working on some others, bent, scratched etc. Good people to work with, all of the auto dealers use them.
If that fails my son has a set of 20" wheels with factory Ford center caps (no lug nuts) off of a Ford F150 Raptor I believe that are in perfect condition. They are black however and he lives in St Louis. A friend of mine gave them to me and I gave them to my son. He may want to get rid of them. I thought about using them on my Expy, but liked the chrome better.

Thanks for the lead!
Oddly enough...I think I met the owner of that business on a trail ride one day (I’m also a cyclist). I’ll reach out to them.
I’m curious about the raptor rims though. If you could get a picture I might be interested.

I was thinking about having them repainted by that shop in Black Chrome, then cleared with a gloss clearcoat and thought that might look nice on my 2014 white expedition. I'll see if he still has them and if so get a picture or two.

Personal opinion - I don't take chances with with tires or wheels. If it is remotely questionable replace both. So in other words, when in doubt, throw it out! The tragedy that can happen at 70 MPH when a tire suddenly lets go is not worth the risk, particularly if my family is riding in the truck with me. Tires and wheels are cheap compared to the value of human life. It's not worth the gamble to save a few bucks.
