Did my first oil change. It was relatively simple and if you are considering it, I wouldn't hesitate.

I have the plastic oil pan and plastic drain plug. While I saw reports of it being messy, I didn't have a problem with spillage at all. Rather than just pulling the plug all the way out, I removed it slowly and just held it half removed for a bit. No gushes and no spraying my arm or the cross member.

The filter did cause a little spillage. The stupid funnel channel they engineered did not catch or drain anything. Oil came straight down from the threads. Regardless, it was relatively easy to access.

Last comment is about the sound shield -- can't really call it a skid plate -- that you need to remove to get to the oil pan. It sure does catch a lot of debris. I do a fair amount of beach driving and it was full of sand and shells. A lot more than I ever expected. Given the softness of that material and sands propensity to hold water, I am a little worried about weight on that structure in the future.

The problem is it's impossible to drive on the beach and not see how much sand you can throw...

A long, long time ago I went back to my hometown to a funeral for a good friend. We ended up late at night down on Surfside Beach, Texas. When I woke up the next day to return the rental car I had sand on the headliner. I still don't know the physics of throwing sand through the windows and onto the headliner...

I did my first oil change tonight also. The filter catch pan has a hole in the rear in addition to the funnel up front. I think they intended for the oil to drain straight down.
Also, these pliers worked great on the motorcraft filter.

I did my first oil change in my '19 Platinum. It had the metal drain bolt.

One observation I made was only adding 5.5 quarts. The level was in the middle of the high/low marks.

When I checked the level in the morning it was just a hair below the high mark.
