I love my Michelin Defender tires on my current Expy. I have also had a set of Firestone Destination AT tires on my last Expy when I sold it and was very pleased with those. I lost interest in Goodyear 30 years ago. Had Wranglers on a church van that were awful when I was transportation committee chairman 20+ years ago. I'd probably go Michelin when I replace my current tires but have nothing negative to report on the Firestone Destination. My heavy trucks I always chose the Firestone Transforce.

Did you read it?

What is not covered ...

Bridgestone / Firestone

Pirelli

Toyo

Goodyear /Dunlop

Continental

Yokohama, Hankook and Maxxis exercise the same policy by simply omitting any guarantee of treadwear mileage.

Finally, there's Michelin / BFG. The Ford doc makes it look like there's a treadwear warranty, but directs you to Michelin to read the details. The tire warranty doc over at Michelin clears things up.

So once again, there is no treadwear warranty on OE tires.

If they are dry rotted, they would qualify. Per the manual:
Workmanship and Materials
Michelin passenger and light truck tires, used in normal service on the vehicle on which they were originally fitted and in accordance with the maintenance recommendations and safety warnings contained in this warranty guide and your vehicle’s owner guide, are covered by this limited warranty against defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the original usable tread, or six years from date of purchase, whichever comes first. At that time, all warranties, express or implied, expire. Replacement will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions described under “How Replacement Charges are Calculated”

So it’s not tread wear but it is for defects.

Did you see me say a word about dry rot? We are talking about treadwear. Period.

Since you brought it up though, I wish you luck trying to get compensation for cracking in the sidewalls.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED

3– Minor cosmetic ozone or weather cracking;

Now you need an authorized dealer to submit a claim to Michelin confirming the cracks as a defect rather than "minor cosmetic ozone or weather cracking." The dealer won't get a penny if Michelin fails to agree with their assessment, so the dealer will need to be 100% certain that they can prove this is a "defect." Good luck.

I put coopers on MAX at about 45K. I think I have coopers on my F350 and E 350 as well. I normally drive 80 MPH on the interstates maybe a little faster sometimes.. 70 MPH on secondary roads. Have not had any issues with lost traction in rain or snow.

Had 2 sets of Michelin LTX M/S 2s on my Suburban and the sidewalls dry rotted and cracked on both sets. Think it was from sitting outside in Texas sun. Switched those to Coopers and having much better luck. Still have the 18 inch Primacys on the 4x4 Expy and they are fine but only 22K miles.
Coopers come in AT and more aggressive ATs as well at LT versions.
If a more aggressive tire is desired the Goodrich K02s are very well thought of. I have driven F150s with them and they are very good but will not likely have high mileage compared to more highway-directed designs.

The 2 sets of Michelin LTX M/S 2 for the Suburban that cracked were purchased at Discount Tire and they gave me 50% credit for the first set and I think around 30% for the second set which I applied to Coopers. Both sets had significant mileage on them but still quite a bit of tread remaining, perhaps 30 to 40% tread remaining. Been running the Coopers ever since. Now up to 185K so it's been through some tires.

I just dumped my stock Dynapro's for the Continental Terrain Contacts and they are amazing. They are very aggressive and great in all weather including high water, quiet, and only 39lbs per tire. They dynapro's were 44lbs per tire.

The Michelins are known for this issue. The tech at Sam's Club even warned me about it when I got the first set, but told me they would prorate them if it happened. It never did happen, but I burned through 70k+ miles in only 3 years.
