Help!!! This happened to me over the weekend and the dealership said it is not a warranty issue. They said ice must of got in there and caused the damage. I called ford customer service and they then contacted the dealership. When they reached out again they said they can’t go against the dealership recommendation of it not being a warranty issue due to it not being caused by a part or design flaw.

Definitely a design flaw and FORD Corporate knows it. I think we also have documentation on this somewhere on this board that can help your case.

I've wondered if the defect is a design flaw or an assembly issue from the factory?

I'd bet a poor assembly issue (and lack of quality control inspections) from the factory.

What the hell is going on here. You got some dealers saying it's a warranty issue and others not. It's the same exact problem everyone is having with the lift gate.
Whether it's ice, snow, freezing temps, or a design / assembly issue, this should not be a dealer trying to get out of an obvious snafu from Ford.
Is this happening with other manufacturers lift gates ?
And what about the TSB from an earlier post. Are dealers dismissing it.
I thought dealers were notified from Ford to fix as a warranty issue.
This defect or what ever Ford wants to call it , can't end here, without a full and complete warranty across the board so there is no discrepancy on the dealers part.

Thank you all for posting this. Going to dealership today for them to evaluate if this is a warranty issue. Left me stranded on the Ohio turnpike last night in the freezing cold, thankfully found duct tape at a truck stop to at least get us home

Let us know what they tell you please I’m currently going through the fight with Ford after being denied the first time. Reached out again with the info from this page and for now it’s an open claim until I can get it to a dealership again for reevaluation.

Hello All, I'm joining the party with our Expy 22 having the spoiler/roof damage issue this weekend. It was around 10°F at the time. I was in total disbelief that such a thing could happen. I've also have had Hail Damage repaired and a Broken Windshield replaced this past year.

I've attached my photos. Anyone know which dealerships in Metro Detroit will work the issue the best? I typically go through Romeo Ford.

Thanks for those before who've done the leg work to get this sorted out and provided some guidance.

Joining all of you here. I too am dealing with this very issue and was denied today initially by my dealer. They did tell me they will submit it to Ford and follow up, but never brought up that the issue is common and that Ford was covering it. I'm going tomorrow again and see wha They say after I share these new findings

So here is how it all started for me. I attempted to lift the liftgate on Friday the 19th where it was about 20 degrees in NJ. We heard the popping and cracking and thought it was ice. Didn't think too much of it. Opened it again later and I we heard it again and the lift gate closed back up. My crack is pretty significant and Ford is not taking responsibility. They are assuming "Something fell on it and cracked it" and recommended I put in a claim with my insurance. It's been a crazy day. From dealer to body shop to my insurance agent. I am going to fight this.

Thank you all for sharing your experience and updates. Video attached. Heading back to the dealer with all thus ammunition youbguus have provided. I will keep all posted. THANKS
