03 expedition xlt 5.4 L
The 5.4s are known to have problems with spark plugs. For your year motor, I believe they have problems with blowing out plugs, but if it happens, it can be fixed. Others will chime in to correct me and tell if they've had problems. As far as the timing chain, I don't recall any big problems on...- 99 Expy

Who's pulled their 4x4 tranny?
It took me about 2 hours to put the truck on stands and pull the t-case, but I could probably do it in half that next time if that helps you figure out time any better.- 99 Expy

Who's pulled their 4x4 tranny?
Haven't pulled the tranny yet, but I pulled the t-case off in May. I think it would be just as easy to pull it as one unit, but for the t-case, you have to take one of the cross members off, a wire harness, driveshafts, and 6 bolts connecting the t-case to tranny. Not really a big deal, but time...- 99 Expy

But then again, you dont get to say that you have BFGs :D I was going to say earlier, but forgot, the kevlars are strong tires, but, if by chance you get a hole, they are harder to patch due to the metal in the tire. But for most driving you'll do, you should will be fine.- 99 Expy

Glad you got her figured out... I have had extra wires left on the adapter harness since they are used for a variety of models and years. I need an entire system all together, so I guess you're still up on me lol- 99 Expy

Haven't been around them much. I talked to a park ranger with them on a 2011 expedition in 265/70/17s and he said they were ok. They howl pretty loud though. #4 spark plug hole full of coolant??
I don't think it will leak enough of a difference to notice the loss of coolant by looking at your coolant level since its just a drip drip kind of deal, but when mine misfired, I let it cool down and pulled the #4 plug wire and saw that it was wet from coolant.- 99 Expy

It never dawned on me until a few weeks later when my computer told me it was #4, but prior to that I could hear the misfire through my exhaust especially. Yupp, like Panda said. When I changed my passenger cam cover, I unhooked a heater hose, and it was a little loose when I put it back on so it leaked in the hole, if it leaks enough like mine did, it will cause a misfire.- 99 Expy

Like everyone has said. 1st gens are a better choice for wheeling. Since i have the 4.6 i havethe weaker and smaller drivetrain and open diffs in both axles, but it has still held up great. I have 265/75/16 tires on mine with stock suspension and there is still more roomin available and flexes...- 99 Expy

Ya, I changed mine a few months ago when I had it pulled apart. Its one of those things that are often forgotten about. Also, it takes like 1.9 qts, so after you spill a bit ... the full 2 qts will fill it up lol- 99 Expy

How difficult to put a 4.6 into a 5.4 truck?
You can put a 5.4 in a vehicle that had a 4.6, but I think it would be easier to find a low mileage 5.4 from a salvage yard to swap in. You would likely need to do work with wiring harnesses. Like early 4.6 motors having 2 coils, and the 5.4s having COPs... But you can make whatever work that...- 99 Expy

Like everyone else has said, it depends on how much you want to keep your current expy. I've got 170k on mine, and the tranny is starting to go out. Since the truck is in pretty good shape, and I'm a little short on cash from still being in school, I'm swap in a low mileage tranny this fall...- 99 Expy
