sadly some of the lighter duty models came with a single core. Mine unfortunately was one of those. I am going to fix that mistake by Ford! I have done quite a bit of research for this project and I'm expecting some very good results. Thank you to those on this forum that have posted their...
This is my first attempt at a write up. I'm doing the electric fan install on my 1997 Expedition 4.6L XLT 4x4. I have also upgraded the radiator to a 2 row. Here are the parts I have purchased.
1. 2 speed Volvo fan controller from Ebay. Volvo 2 Speed Electric Fan Controller Relay Lincoln...
I always love the pictures you post. Alaska is beautiful! Thanks for the info as well. I guess my truck getting 10mpg is pretty good towing our 26" camper. We have mountains here as well. Which is why I'm upgrading the cooling system. The last time I took it out some of the long slow climbs...
You should be fine towing with that. Add a trans cooler for longer trans. life and some security. I have even thought about a oil cooler for mine. Just to make it a little bit easier on the motor, since I have the 4.6L. You should be fine.
Thats really cool! Honestly, did the MPG even drop towing that with the Excursion? My family and I really enjoy camping with a travel trailer. Especially when the camper hasn't been winterized and you hook up the water to find a nice water feature from the hot water tank. I say that to say, make...
I dont know that there's really a downside to a higher amp alternator. Maybe a little more drag on your engine to spin the heavier amperage load? Bt it is completely offset by the gains of always having power to charge your battery, run lights and any other accessory you may have. If mine goes...
This is my 1997 XLT 4.6. 4x4 W/3:55 gears and an open diff., towing our 26' camper. Does a good job too! Glad I finally got some pics of it hooked up to share!
Depending on the parts needed it can be anywhere from $1500 to $3500. Make sure whoever does it is competent. They answer all of your questions clearly and they have a good reputation. Or you can be going through the same hassle next year this time.
So if it is the fuel pump. What Walbro pump works in our trucks? If I'm going to spend that kind of money I may as well get a pump that will handle whatever I may do to my truck down the road.
This problem has been bothering me for some time. When my expy is warm it takes more cranking to get it to start. I'll crank it for ten seconds and it just turns over. Then I let off the key and try again and it fires right up. Anyone else have this problem? I was at a gas pump next to another...
It's a 16mm thread and at least a 8.8 grade bolt for suspension. Personally I would try to find something in the 10.8 grade. But thats just me. Length I dont know. Hope this helps.
I'm working on mine going faster too! Just with less displacement. I will say there are a few reasons I want a 5.4L instead of the 4.6L.
To the OP,
I work 50 miles from my house. So I drive 500 miles a week. I get 425 miles on a tank average. So far I have done the Gotts mod and a K&N air...
Well there is one difference. I have the 4.6L. Not as much power but my gas goes further. I try to keep the RPM's around 2200-2300 when on the highway. Works pretty good for me. I'm shooting for 20mpg. Hopefully with an exhaust and electric fan I'll be that much closer.
I get around 17.5 - 18 and I'm doing 75-76 in mine almost every day. Its a first gen with 3.55 gears. We dont have mountains. But we are not flat here in Richmond either.
The pump would have to be really loud to hear it at highway speeds. I can't hear mine when I'm cruising down the highway. But I could imagine if your air ride pump was going bad it making enough noise to hear it at those speeds.
daoud,
You can install the 5.4L with the 4r100 transmission in place of the 4.6L with the 4r70w transmission. But you need to have the computer and wiring harness from the 5.4L. Then it will be much more simple.
I'm thinking I'm going to back flush the heater core and go from there. Next up will be the thermostat. Then water pump or fan clutch after that.
The clutch has resitance and rotates when the engine is off. I might use this as an excuse to get electric fans. That and better fuel economy.
1997 expy. with 4.6L 4x4 rear air and heat. 200k. Heater core replaced at around 100-110k. Thermostat, water pump and fan/fan clutch its unknown if its ever been replaced. Antifreeze level is good. Now to the problem.
I get decent heat when I'm driving on the expressway or any time the truck...
I had the same issue without the hurricane. Its your cables that run to the starter. You can buy replacements from Ford. But I decided to buy individual cables from Advance Auto parts. If memory serves they were a 42" positive with hoop connector on both ends. Then a 24" from the battery to the...
