Wonder why low fluid was causing it to stall, wierd?... Glad you figured it out. I always hated doing tranny fluid changes, I never know how much to fill and when it's done taking fluid. I start it, put in gear, then check the level. AFter about 4-5 cycles the level stays reading full. Then...
I'm in a very similar situation as you are. I had a 98 Eddie Bauer Explorer for 11 years and decided to upgrade to the much nicer riding Expedition. So a few weeks ago I joined this site to get some knowledge/insight about the quirks of the Expedition. I learned what to look for, what to avoid...
Well I painted the Blue portion of my front bumper tonight... lucky guess on the match, looks EXACT!!! Man what a huge difference, I can't wait to see it again in the sunlight. My garage cheap ass paint booth, with bugs flying around and my $10 Harbor Freight gravity feed HVLP spray gun...
I've bought paint for other cars I've owned and did spot repairs, never once had an issue with varying shades, never even heard of it. This is the first time I've seen that. And by comparing the paint chip cards, I'm glad mine is the color it is. Some of the optional colors were extremely faded...
I needed to buy the gold Eddie Bauer trim paint so I can repaint my front bumper, and the rear lower quarter panels. I looked on the search engine, and also on google, spent over an hour with no definitive information. So I called a touch up paint company, they didn't even know- they gave me...
My first tank of fuel since buying the truck, I took a road trip across the state. I averaged 65 mph, and got about 460 miles, filled with about 25 gallons. I average 15 mpg city driving according to the trip computer.
2003, 2WD, 5.4L, K&N Drop in, stock everywhere else
I don't know from my own experimenting, but I've seen some people wrap their intakes with insulation. Metal, especially aluminum, transfers heat much quicker than plastic. Plastic is an insulator. So with that said I would assume the plastic intake pipe keeps the inlet air cooler. The...
Your running a 99 EXP? I'm not sure what intake looks like on yours or if the same mod applies. However it's the same idea, removing any restriction before the air box, and then reconnecting it to an outside air source like through the side of the fender.
No one really cares looking at the lack of any responses... however just an update for you guys/mechanics like me that appreciate seeing a problem solved.:
- I replaced the aft a/c system expansion valve an it completely solved the problem. Aft a/c is freezing ice cold now.
- found the part...
Yeah if you google Gotts mod you can find the instructions on the F150 forum. It took me 15 min to do it at work using my band saw and a 3" PVC pipe, and a 3" flexible coupling. I removed the air intake noise muffler thing, and removed the horribly restrictive 2" inlet. It's actually a little...
Oh good point, didnt even think of that. I'm planning on installing a stainless Bullbar someday....some day...lol. I can't afford jack right now, but within a year maybe, hopefully.
So, how much are you asking for your hooks?
Thanks for the info guys. I found mine, pass side kick panel, black box mounted on side wall. It was in the forward most point of that area but I did not have to remove anything. All I needed was a flashlight.
2003 model
Just realized that I don't have tow hooks on the front. I was wondering why my front bumper has two square cut outs with nothing in them, and the saw that the frame is right behind the cutouts. The frame has holes for mounting the hooks.
Are tow hooks standard or an option? Just wondering why...
My 98 explorer had a bad problem of stalling when turning left. It would only do it when the engine was hot, and only within the first 5 minutes after restarting a hot engine- like after running inside a fast food place or something. It would also do it if you drove at a slow speed of around 35...
I just read up on the "Gotts" mod, I like it. My truck already has a K&N filter from the previous owner, and the stock air box is well...stock. According to my Scan Gauge the inlet air temp is usually about 1 degree hotter than my outside air temp gauge. So I'm already getting the coldest...
Hesitation from an idle is usually an intake leak of some sort. A lot of times it's a loose vacuum hose like from the brake canister or pcv valve. Mine kept acting up on my explorer causing high rpm rise immediately after startup, and then low/high rpm surging, stalling etc. It ended up being a...
I use the blue enzyme fuel system treatment that they usually sell in the boating section at Walmart. You use something like 1oz per every 8 gallons. With our Altima it gave us 2-3 mpg on the highway gain. I haven't tried it yet on the EXP.
I'm a mechanic for 15 years in aviation, and worked...
When I press the unlock button on my remote, the mirror sounds like it's trying to rotate/change direction for about 1 second. I've never seen it move but I always hear it. What the hell's it supposed to be doing?
When I bought my truck the cd changer said "slots full" whenever I pressed the "Load" button. When pressing eject I got "cd error". I took it apart and pulled out 3 home made cd's with the year 2006 hand written on them. One of the discs was broke into 3 pieces. I got all the junk out of the...
I'm in the same boat as you. I found a rear expansion valve brand new surplus Motorcraft for only $12 with free shipping. I'll see if it fixes it. I saw someone else cure that problem with a rear expansion valve.
My other thought is- why is the hot water always on at the rear heater core...
SCT says no problem I can use it on the Expedition. I just gotta get someone to sell me the files for my truck. It cost me only $50 last time from Doug at BAMA chips, for the explorer. He's not there any more, and they quit programming trucks.
On the explorer the towing program made a huge...
Forced induction is air that is forced into the induction system from a supercharger or turbo.
CAI is Cold Air Intake
A hood scoop is really just a form of CAI. Some claim that the hood scoop is increasing the barometric pressure, therefore creating forced induction- however your gonna have...
Has anyone tried Pulstar plugs yet? I'd like to, but too expensive. They have a built in capacitor that stores each spark until the voltage peaks at it's highest point, then unleashes all of the energy in one huge spark.
Supposedly they claim big gains in economy and power, but then again...
I'll do that thanks. I keep finding websites selling them for older style shocks but only until 2002 model. The 2003 has a strut setup with coil over spring, maybe it's not available for mine?
