Just bought an 03' 2wd and its got a front end clunk when going over bumps. I jacked the truck and checked upper/lower ball joints first, all seem tight. I checked tie rod ends and control arm bushings, all seem tight. The ONLY thing that seems to have any free play is the lower bushing on both front shocks. Also the sway bar end links look suspicious but I cant make them clunk at all.

I can't find a part # for the lower bushings on the shocks. I don't have the $ to just replace both front shocks at $80 each just because I can't find a bushing part number, which should only cost about $10 anyway.

Is this bushing even replaceable? Or do they screw you into having to buy new shocks and transfer the coil over springs etc.?

It would be nice to be able to afford spending all that money to find out if that fixes the noise, however I'm not in a good enough financial state to do so. I was hoping there's an aftermarket polyurethane kit with shock bushings. They replace everything else with polyurethane because of excessive flexing, why not the soft rubber shock mounts as well.

check your local 4x4 shop. i know offroad warehouse here in SD sells bushings by themselves, like 5 bucks. and you just have to press the old ones out and put the new ones in.

I'll do that thanks. I keep finding websites selling them for older style shocks but only until 2002 model. The 2003 has a strut setup with coil over spring, maybe it's not available for mine?

This is my first post here, and are bumping this old tread... Is it possible to get the lower bushing bought separate or not?

Thanks for any reply

your posting in an old thread and the others mentioned the years of their expys. You should start a new thread and also give information about your expy like year etc.

Its always best to include the year as Ford does make changes from one model year to another

Thank you bedrck46 for your quick reply. I am used to other forums not wanting to start new threads as long as there is one that fits to the items needed answers on. But I sure will do as you suggest.
