    sounds like a bad sensor somewhere. Maybe a throttle position sensor? If the computer thinks that you have your foot to the floor it will probably hold the gears to redline before shifting.

    Odd noise under normal or moderate acceleration

    Check your engine mounts and exhaust pipes. If an exhaust pipe touches the floorboard you get immediate vibrations. If the engine mounts or tranny mount are worn out it'll let everything twist under a load and possibly hit the floor board.
