    Mojave Expedition fun

Once upon a time, i crossed out of the mojave north of I15, across the dry lake bed on the west side of 127 north of baker. Being a noob at the time i did not understand what the dark spot in the middle of the “dry” lake meant. Luckily, once i hit the flats, i opened it up so i was moving fast...

What did you do to the expy today

Well... 2004 SSV 4x4... Rear brakes, front moog control arms, AC venting, door/hatch locks and switches, radio power, ... Next: tuner, shorty headers EDIT had to delete the wheels and tires. we're on day 5 past due, the answer's the same every day: they're scheduled to arrive... whatever. I...

    Replacement tires

As has been said, the “right” tires depend on what you’re doing. having said that, i will never trust Firestone again. I’ve had two firestones, years apart, with steel belt separation, one coming through the tread. On the other hand, i love Goodyear Wranglers. Once upon a time i lived and worked...

2003 Expedition wont start after driving. high temp/low oil light comes on

I don’t really know for sure, but get it looked at Asap. Do not pass go, do not collect 200, go immediately to a shop. I had a similar problem once and it cost me an engine. If i were in your shoes i would have it towed.

What tire pressure for 17” aftermarket wheels?

The tires will have it molded into the side, but that’s not necessarily “best” for your setup or requirement.

    Summit Tuner ? Programmer response

I dunno... when I’m selling 600 dollar hardware, it might occur to me to get off my ass and get that info from my vendors rather than blowing off a prospect who cares enough to research the product. It’s not like it was even a hard question. But that’s me. You do you. Thank you for your input.

Extended warranty, waste of money or worth it, 2017?

actually, it turns out you didn't pay for anything you might actually need. it sounds good, but there's nothing there.

    Tuners & Programmers

thanks, I've read the ads for all the ones I've found. None clearly specifies vacuum gauges or ammeters. can you verify SCT X4 will display a vacuum gauge and an ammeter? thanks for your time. jg

I am checking off the list of things on my 2000 5.4 XLT 4x4 ex California Highway Patrol expedition

I bought a 2nd Gen SSV a year ago; it was a supervisor's fire truck in showroom condition. it was just under 100K, needing a ball joint and a rear rotor. getting any real increase in ground clearance for the 2nd Gen is very difficult. Either "leetle" lifts from shocks or "blocks" or major...

Extended warranty, waste of money or worth it, 2017?

I always read the extended coverage when it's offered. in every case, I've never bought the extended coverage because of the the exclusions. my wife, on the other hand, always buys all the coverage available; it makes her feel better. it has paid for one alternator so far. She is always...

    What's next?

In my youth, i had a 1970 GTO with the 350 HO. It would fly. Later, i bought a pontiac Sunbird with a turbocharged 110 CID brazilian four cylinder. That thing would eat corvettes and porsches in the midrange. Topped out early though, so they would eventually catch me. Eventually. Good times...

    Buying a used rental

I was a traveling consultant for 11 years. without regard to what I rented, I drove them all like it was my last day on earth. it was only 4 or 5 days at a time, but just based on my experience, and what I knew of the guys I worked with, you couldn't give me a rental. I sure wouldn't pay money...

Interesting take on auto industry woes/falling new sales

I quit buying new cars in 1985, although my wife did buy herself an 07 Mustang. With a couple of short exceptions, I've not had car payments since 2004. In both cases, the loans were paid off in less than a year. I just have not been able to bring myself to pay so much for a car. There's just...
