The fan clutch gets "stiff" when cold and will engage first thing in the morning just like it does in traffic when it is hot out. It uses a silicone fluid inside to grip so it acts the same when it is very cold out as it does when it activates when hot.
you would be hard pressed for torque out of that guy.... very much a higher rpm-oriented engine.... would be much easier to just swap in a 5.4 with some mild mods....

and the 03 is reflash only so no chip possible. Custom tune packages starting at $350
heads and cams help top end but your low end will suffer.... supercharger is the way to go but you will need something special since SC kits are hard to come by for your truck....

Programming makes a big difference on the 03 especially.

There is no replacement for reprogramming the PCM the modules just fool analog values seen by the computer and for the most part the computer eventually just tunes the changes out.
