My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

I also installed some aftermarket headlights because the stock lenses were beyond repair.

My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

Under armor is done. The tank plate is lower than I had hoped but the tank hangs lower than the frame on these so it is what it is. Once I get 35's on it again I should still have plenty of clearance. I have to move the oil and power steering coolers before the front hitch flip can be done. I am...

My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

I picked up the Jolly Green today. A new nickname for my Expy. All the work is done except for the fuel tank armor and front hitch. I may have them add tube to the rock sliders as a step but we are taking it out tomorrow for a trail run to see how everything is working. I am scheduled for the...

My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

@Vincent Vega - I am interested in the extended arms. Will they be producing upper and lower arms? I saw some extended arms built for the Toyota Taco and it seems simple enough however we have the massive aluminum lower that may make the design difficult to make strong enough with steel tube...

My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

The sliders are on and the fuel tank and transfer case/transmission armor and rear Truetrac are going on over the next couple of days. The Trutrac is installed in the front diff and they also had to replace worn carrier bearings during the process. The front control arms are also installed and...

My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

Yes we will have the unicorns on the trail but I don't mind the challenge. The armor will be bolt-on. I will get pics and measurements to share. Their fabricator figures it out on the fly so I will have to time my visits. I believe the skids will be 2x4 channel welded and I asked they bring them...

My Stock EB Expy to Overlanding 4X4 Build

I am in the process of doing the same things you are. I was going to buy a used Rubicon but didn't want to say goodbye to $30K so I am going to spend $5K instead. My wife and I also want to be able to take family with us on trails and the Expy is the only rig I can think of that can manage it...

Left blinker not working on 4 or 7 wire trailer plug

There are separate fuses for the trailer blinkers iirc. Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using Tapatalk

    Advance trac

That happened to me when my left front wheel bearing was floppy enough to cause bad readings from the abs sensor. I'm sure there are many other possibilities for the light.

    04 expedition

I believe that all 2004 5.4L engines are in fact 2v. The 3v started in 2005. The confusion seems to be driven by the F-150 having the 3v in 2004.

    Towing Question

If you don't have a separate, and rather large trans cooler, your trans temps will get well over 200 deg. on long/steep grades. I know because I towed a 5500 lb travel trailer while monitoring trans temps. Standard trans fluid begins to break-down when it gets that hot. Those temps were seen...

    Leveling kits

I don't think they wear any faster, they just ride at a different angle.

What hitches are you using? Anyone using an EL with an EQ/31ft bunkhouse successfully?

To the OP, the hitch bars need grease at the pivot points and on the brackets. If you don't grease them they can get brittle from friction heating at the contact points on the hitch head and may eventually crack. This also reduces noise as an added benefit.

    Newbie with towing question

BordnBill - I bought a 32' TT and have towed it from OH to near Colorado Springs (7000ft elevation). It is 5500 dry (5750 weighed at the factory), 7690 GVWR and 690 tongue weight. I do not have the tow package and have had no issues towing. The entire trip from OH was in 20 gusting to 40 winds...

Photos of Trailer(s) that you tow with your Expedition

2016 Heartland Sundance XLT 291QB. 32' 5700 lbs empty weight, 690 lb tongue, and 7690 GVWR. My Expy tows it just fine even at 7000 ft. We will see how that holds up in mountain passes at 10000 ft. later this summer. The Equal-I-zer hitch is everything they say it is so I would say a load...

    315/70/17 Fit?

It feels fine on the highway and I am now happy they are out that far because I have never felt so secure wheeling on a steep angle than with this setup. The only issue is the rubbing. I have trimmed some of the bumper but it will require more aggressive trimming of the plastic in front and back...

    315/70/17 Fit?

Steps off. Just need rock sliders and small steps for wheeling. I have 3" rubber fender flares on the way also. Christmas tree hunting in 55 degree weather. We are heading up a jeep trail on the front range. The portion you see is (hard to tell in the pic) about a 15 deg incline. The...
