It's pretty normal. My other cars hatch is even worse. Mudflaps won't help.
The Expedition is basically like driving a brick on wheels. There's a huge low pressure area at the back of the truck. Dirt and dust is always going to settle there. Don't try to fight it.
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but my old liftgate only had a couple small barely noticeable bubbles on the back. However, the inside seam right around the entire edge of the liftgate was bubbling and peeling off like crazy. Something to check even if you don't have any bubbles you can see...
My old Nissan used to have a real one, and the model year after mine they replaced it with a dummy gauge. Apparently the dealers were getting people coming in and complaining about the gauge moving up and down. Nissan thought it was easier to just give them a dummy gauge instead of the dealer...
I should be getting mine back tomorrow. They sent it to the body shop, who decided they couldn't fix it and just put on a new liftgate. All covered under warranty.
The dealer was really concerned that I make sure the bumper to bumper warranty wasn't up, but I'm just under the mileage limit...
Open your liftgate and look around the seam along the edges as well. I had a ton of bubbling in that area, as well as 3 big bubbles on the liftgate itself. Ford should cover a repaint for your liftgate, but it's debatable if it will stop any bubbling in the future.
I'd be a bit nervous throwing ceramic pads on my Expedition. The truck weighs a lot, and my past experiences with ceramics seem to indicate a reduction in stopping power. I just installed ceramics on my wifes RDX, and even though it's half the weight, it's quite noticable.
I just priced a 2014 EL Limited out on the Ford Canada site and it was $62,000 including taxes, and this included a $3000 delivery allowance and a $7483 rebate for employee pricing lol.
It also might be worth waiting for just before the 2016's drop, and try to get a better deal on a leftover 2015. I don't know how desperate you are to get out of the 09 Pilot though.
I didn't see too many photos of this issue, so I thought I'd attach one of some of the bubbling on my tailgate.

I wouldn't be concerned about the drivetrain myself, but if you can get extra coverage for the bubbling hood and tailgate paint it would be worthwhile lol.
+1. My old truck had limited slip and the ass end was all over the place in the snow and ice. I find the Expedition is way more stable in 2wd in the same conditions.
I just thought I'd update. I dropped my truck off for service this morning and brought up the bubbling on the liftgate and they sent some pictures to Ford and it's been approved for a repaint. I'm not completely sold that this will fix the problem, but at least they acknowledged the defect...
You can't just link a garbage website made by a 4 year old blind kid and expect us to start an intelligent discussion about this. Either you're trolling, or you are one of those guys who clicks on flashing banner ads and then gives them his credit card number.
But I'll bite....

Well I'd think if you needed air mid trip, then you have a puncture or a leaking tire. I'd personally be more worried about fixing that tire instead of trying to hopscotch between nitrogen filling stations with a tire that could let go and leave you stranded.
Besides air is already 78%...
