grinding noise and rough ride only when in 4A

I have a 2018 Limited, so perhaps a different beast. However, when I had something that sounds like what you are describing, it turned out to be a trashed front diff.

    Dealer says “shifts are normal”

Both my '18 Expedition and '11 Flex Ecoboosts have an exaggerated "delay" as you describe when cold.

    Transmission Failing timeline

FWIW: I complained of the transmission oddities of our '18 Limited every time I took the car in for anything. Always got the patented "no codes - can't do anything" or "can't reproduce" responses. However, after enough complaining the dealer finally had the tech inspect the tranny and found...

    Transmission reset

I'm not 100% certain. My dealer has said "a couple tanks of gas," but based off my experience the rough shifting usually returns within days. I took a quick look, but couldn't find an "official" explanation of when the learning cycle ends.

    Transmission reset

Please let us know if the rough shifting returns. My dealer frequently "resets" the transmission to default back to "learning mode" when I take my '18 Limited in for service and complain of ongoing "rough shifting." Once through the "learning mode," any perceived improvement in the shifting...

Turn off Hands-Free Tailgate via Forscan?

Your mileage may vary, but the TSB did not resolve the issue for me. I ultimately followed the advice of others and disconnected the sensor/antenna. Some helpful info can be found in this thread: https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/hands-free-liftgate-madness.42316/ A search on the...

'20 Ticking on Cold Start Temporarily

My '18 Limited previously had the cam phaser cold start rattle and dealer replaced under warranty. Since that time, some other noise has surfaced. Dealer says it's NOT a repeat of the cam phaser rattle because that was a short 3-5 second rattle (forum members seem to back that statement)...

    Stranded again.

We've had more than our fair share of trouble with our '18 Limited and also find ourselves wondering if we should let it go. If we were to do that, the vehicle at the top of the list we'd be evaluating is the Nissan Armada. From the sounds of it, we'd be stepping back in time with respect to...

    Regular vs. Max

Agree 100% with this. 2nd row bench seat makes a huge difference in the regular length when you're packing lots of stuff in the rear cargo area with 3rd row seats folded flat + transporting people and dogs. If 2nd row captain's chairs were a requirement, I'd only consider the Max. For...

Has anyone had FSA 21N08 reflash done yet?

Exactly!!! If I drive down a gravel road, aren't I more than likely going to be driving on it again after I stop and park (at my house, the store, the park, the office, jobsite, whatever it is I drove down that road to get to) then get back in it to drive back out the same gravel road I drove...

    Driver Recall Issues

I've reprogrammed the manual buttons many times, but to no avail. Haven't tried reprogramming the fobs. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

Does anyone else really hate the OEM tires?

I live in snow country and I found the factory tires on my '18 Limited slipped a lot in winter. Bought Bridgestone BLIZZAK DMV2s and new 18-inch rims for winter use and have been extremely pleased. That said, I wish I had contemplated a better all-season or an all-terrain, as I'm nervous going...

    Driver Recall Issues

Thanks for the suggestion @aggiegrad05. I'll bring it up with the dealer. Meanwhile, another new pattern emerged today...After the initial movements involved in recalling my presets, I could tell the driver's side view mirror was still a bit off (not uncommon these days, as I've described...

    Driver Recall Issues

Yes, each of our fobs is programmed separately, one for Driver #1 (my wife) and one for Driver #2 (me), as you describe. The problem is that when the settings are moving from one driver's presets to the other's, certain items (seat and side view mirrors in our case) go only 75% - 95% of the way...

    Parking Sensors Acting Up

My '18 Limited previously had a situation where the parking sensors that detect when you're close to an object and trigger the various warnings on the dash wasn't working at all. Took the dealer a LONG time to figure out what was going on, but they finally got it repaired and everything was...

    Driver Recall Issues

My '18 Limited previously underwent repairs for the clicking/popping side view mirrors problem. Things were working well after that. Lately, however, as my wife (Driver 1) and I (Driver 2) enter the vehicle after the other was the last one driving, the driver recall function doesn't always get...

    Cold Start Rattle (Again)

My '18 Limited had the cam phasers replaced awhile back. Symptom at the time was the oft-reported "cold start rattle". After repairs, the rattle went away. Sometime between then and now, the "cold start rattle" returned. However, from the various threads on this forum and according to the...

    Question about 4WD Auto characteristics

Initially, my problem was in 4WD and under stress/load only (going uphill and/or towing). Over time, the symptoms grew more noticeable and were present in 2WD as well, even on flat ground and without any stress/load. It was that pattern that ultimately led to the front diff being replaced...

    Question about 4WD Auto characteristics

That's the interesting thing about the uphill test I outline above...I hear/feel these vibrations/grinding even with constant speed, constant angle of ascent, steady steering (i.e., driving straight), dry smooth pavement, constant gear, etc. And, previously those symptoms (albeit more...

    Question about 4WD Auto characteristics

I experienced a problem awhile back where my '18 Limited w/ HD Tow Pkg began making a grinding/rubbing sensation. Initially it was limited to 4A and when under load (driving uphill and/or towing), but got worse over time to the point where the symptoms could be felt/heard even in 2H and on...

Limp Mode, Fuel Leak, Burning Smell, & Neutral Tow

Yep, was told by dealer "they" (there's more than one in these cars?) are being replaced - waiting on parts. After consulting with the regional service rep, they're going to keep the car and put some miles on it after replacing to try and see what else may pop up and need addressing.

Hands free lift gate closing by itself

You can disable the power liftgate through settings, but that completely disables the power, so you have to pull it open and push it closed. To do that you can find the setting here (search within for liftgate)...
