I'm new to this forum.. my names Rafael. Ive been up all night long reading about the interesting questions people have.. i was wondering about the Gotta mod.. I've never heard of this mod. does anybody know if its California smog legal? im going to do it regardless haha.. just be good to know more about it. i was reading on it on our forums and on the F-150 forums.. so can someone break it down to me..beside the throttle response am i going to get better gas mileage? is there an advantage on this because i have a k&n air filter and not the stock paper filter?

the tbs sounds cool but its starting to sound like just a waste of money/ :( how sad because i just ordered it like 3 days ago.. at least ill get the cool whistling sound..

I haven't seen anybody ask about the tornado but i have it and i cant even tell a difference.. i don't think i would recommend it to anybody at least not for them to go buy it for like 60 bucks.. oh and by the way i got it for free from a ex pep boys co-worker haha i didnt pay for it.

No Idea about Cali smog... but I would think this modification would not make a difference all you are doing is giving the engine more unresricted air. This is the best write up I have found so far, with pretty pictures

So I just measured my 2006 up for the Gott's Mod here is what I have found out with photos. On the 2006 it's a single piece and you will probably have to hack it up a bit... that said the photo's speak for themselves - 2 3/8" unobstructed in mine - the calipers on the opening do not lie.

Has anyone in here done this already to a 2006? or other similar year with the same set up - I might have to be the first - however there is no going back after I take a saw to the end of this intake...

So I just completed my Gott's Mod on my 2006 Expedition - here are the photos and details - I have not yet tested it yet - gotta wait until the Permatex Dries, and of course until tomorrow - I had a few bevies while doing it.

PICT0168.jpg
3 1/4" of breathing room... this is a PVC to ABS adapter so it's a little thinner than the standard 3" ABS - it's also easier to make fit into that not quiet round hole in the fender well - I still did a little sanding with a "dremmel" tool to the interior and exterior to smooth everything out

PICT0170.jpg
I'm committed now! Off with your head! :) (b)

PICT0171.jpg
Photos of the intake, rubber adapter, and part I cut off

PICT0172.jpg
Rubber adapter with a little black silicone to seal the exterior - not on the inside so it should not ever get sucked inside - gotta love Permatex

PICT0173.jpg
Finished - completed all installed - now I gotta test it.

So from my calculations
2.4"+/- from the previous photos = 4.52 in2
3.25"+/- from the new Gotts Mod = 8.25 in2

That's almost twice as much area to breathe - so hopefully I'll see some improvements in mileage, power - I'll report tomorrow after some test driving

Any updates valley boy. I have an 06 as well and was considering doing a volant (I had one on the f150). But if I can save a few hundred-why not. Thanks, mike

Doesn't seem much different - maybe a little more throttle response - I have not drove enough yet to notice anything in the mileage department - sounds a little bit meaner - for the $15 bucks I'd give this a go first before the CAI - once I but the trailer behind it in spring I should be able to notice the extra air

I was going to do this mod soon. What is on the inside of the large piece near the fender. I was assuming it was a silencer, so why not take it out as well. Let us know how it goes. I have been trying to do the mod for about a month now, but the expy is the wifes and there is hardly any time when we are both at home and I have a chance to dig into things. Her commute is all city and she is getting 10-14mpg. Not bad really for a big rig, but I want to bump it up a bit and am not ready to purchase a programer. Also looking into some exhaust work.

I'll tell you one thing after a few years experience with the Expy - I don't care what you do to it, it is NOT good on gas - I don't think I saw ANY improvement in mileage, so who cares - a 5.4l V8 is going to drink gas - I accept that - but I do think throttle response is a bit better - I have a programmer also so depending on what tune that doesn't help either - so let's enjoy them!
