Ok i need to know if the shop is messing with me, My 01 expy went from 14mpg to 10mpg factory. It melted the dpi module had to replace. Very sluggish seems like it is really dogging until about 40mph. Shop thinks cats are plugged wants $1100 to replace, I want to drop them all together. I have been told to buy a programmer and cut the cats out turn off rear 02censors. Any suggestions? i can't drive in fear of burning a valve with plugged cats.

what kind of shop? i took my truck to a muffler shop and had all 4 cats replaced with hi-flow cats and piping form y back is now 3in that cost like 400 or so i had previously put a 40 series muffler on which cost 100 so for around 500-600 you should be able to find a shop to do just about the entire exhaust system. where do you live maybe someone on here lives near by and they can help get you in the right direction and dont get ripped off. i got shops all around town that charge 100 a piece for cat installed thats per cat but when you start talking about everything they are willing to work with you if not go somewhere else

The only thing that concerns me is with plugged cats I would think it would get worse as speed increases. Did they pressure test the exhaust?

Can always get diagnosis elsewhere with no mention of what previous shop said. If same diagnosis you would have confirmation of the problem.

Then you need to know why the cats went bad?? So it will not happen again.

If you are not concerned with emissions, being legal and have no emissions testing where your located you could eliminate the cats with rear o2's turned off. This will make your exhaust much louder if you have any kind of cat back system.

$1,100 is probably about right if their including all new original equipment cats.

I'm in Shawnee Ok, and all my quotes are from muffler shops factory equip. I need to do pressure test first I'm just trying to figure it out. I replaced fuel filter cleaned the k-n air filter cleaned the air mass. I had the computer cleared at shop when the dpi module melted down. Next is fuel pressure test. and exhaust pressure test. After that I'm replacing the pluggs. And finishing the tune up. After that is cutting the exhaust out. If that dont work I'm shooting it.
