Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this. I have a 2006 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 89,000 miles on it that has decided to give me trouble this summer. Currently my issue is with it idling very low when I'm not pressing the accelerator. It shakes as if it's going to shut off (so far it hasn't). The action is the same no matter if its in park or if its in drive and I am sitting at a light.

Just some background information on my recent repairs... First we had the throttle body replaced after the engine went into fail safe mode (that was 2 months ago). Then we had it in the shop again for the check engine light which resulted in "numerous misfire readings" per the dealership (that was 2 weeks ago). For that we had to replace all of our plugs and one of our coils. After those two repairs the truck seemed fine until this morning. It all started today on my drive to work. It did fine all the way to the office (about 50 miles) until I had to shut it off and restart it (I stopped for coffee). Upon restarting it the trouble began with the rough and low idle.

There are no check engine lights on at this time. Also, as preventative maintenance we had the cooling system and the transmission serviced (flushed) about two weeks ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm tired of giving my money away to the dealership.

P.S. My husband is good with working on cars once he knows what to look for so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

While waiting for a response here, I began to do more research. I'm finding that the two main areas to check are the coils (to date I've only replaced one) and the rubber elbow/boot behind the motor. The problem is both of these two areas (according to what I'm reading) throw CEL errors which I am not getting.

Any suggestions on where I should start????

Well, start there. Also the MAF may need cleaning. Low idle doesn't always throw codes, but that little elbow is agood place to check, and like I mentioned, clean your MAF.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered a set of 8 coils last night from Ebay so we will take care of those very soon. We also found out last night that the dealership did not replace all of the plugs as they said they had. I'm sure that's feeding into the issue as well.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Since my last post we have changed all of the spark plugs and coils. I drove to the truck for the first time to work and it did great in stop and go traffic until my last 5 miles. While sitting at my last traffic light the truck began to idle very low again (pretty much at 0 rpm). Any ideas where to go next?
