07 5.4 COP recommendations

So it seems that I have a COP (or several) on their way to check out with an intermittent misfire.

At 166k it seems like they have done their duty and are ready to be replaced so does anyone have any recommendations for favorite COP brands? Should I just let my dealer replace it with FoMoCo parts?

(FWIW, plugs were changed at 100k so they are good).

Motorcraft are the preferred brand. They have been tested time and again above the others. You aren't going to have a shop replace them are you? They are super easy to swap out.

Order them online and do them yourself. You can get the FoMoCo coils for $40 each on Amazon ($320 for 8) or a set of MSD coils at ~$240/set. I haven't done them on my Expy, but on my wife's Mazda (4-cylinder) you can do all 4 in about 45 minutes.

The fomoco are good and expensive.

I have used the following in 3 vehicles over the last couple of years with zero issues at all.

I have also use the granatelli motorsports from Summit Racing.

Both have served well, less cost.

If you have never done them they are not as easy as the mazda trust me. Expect to spend the day doing them. If you are going as far as doing the coil packs go the extra step and do the plugs also.
