I bought a used 07 EL Ltd last spring and its been raining for several days now here in Michigan, and now I've got rain dripping from the DVD player into the back seat! Yes it does have the power sunroof and it is closed all the way (at least I think it is with the switch).

What the heck?!?!?

Anyone else have this problem before?

Thanks!
Chris

I dont have a sunroof, so I do not know much about them, but when it stops raining, look for cracks in the seal, spots that are different in color, etc. My guess is that the seal has gone bad.

First thing to do is look and see if the drain tubes in the sunroof are blocked. That's usually the culprit. Open the sunroof up, and using a cup of water SLOWLY pour the water around the rim of the open sunroof. The drains are located at the front below the built in wind deflector. If water backs up then the drains are blocked. A can of computer air usually can be used to blow the obstructions out.

I think they're draining ok. I slowly poured some water around the edge on both sides and they gurgled a little and the water drained pretty quickly. I hit them with some canned air just in case afterward.

Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Plenty of cases where corrosion has hit the roof and caused holes in it. My new to me 04 came from a salt free area, but the paint was cracked in the channels. They trap water there, and since it is salt water in the winter, I painted the roof to preclude that. But many people have found the roof rotted out, even on fairly new XP's. Google it.

I don't have any rust/corrosion on my roof........yet! I do have some bubbled paint on the lift gate and hood though that I better have repaired soon.

Is DVD aftermarket? Maybe when it was installed might have poked a hole in roof

I think there are 2 drains at the rear corners of the sunroof too. You should see if they are draining ok as well.

I just saw this

I am starting another thread about the drains, but I saw this (perhaps too late for you). Anyways, my 2008 EL had the DVD player fixed or replaced (I'd have to find the paperwork to confirm) per a TSB that was the water coming from the roof and thru the DVD. Let me know if you want me to find the information, I think I have it somewhere.

******,

I would LOVE to see that info! For now, it isn't leaking, but I haven't done anything that actually fixes it, so its bound to come back at some point.

Thanks!

Check that the glass panel is aligned to seal properly. It is held by 4 screws on each side and can be adjusted up or down. IIRC its held by #25 star (torx) screws.

There's also a tray at the backside of the sunroof. With the roof closed you can feel around to see if its full of water or dry. That may help you find out where its coming from.

Hopefully this is still useful. I'm a little late with the info, but here is the tech comments/writeup from when my Expedition went through this (with the previous owner, and for what it's worth):

8901 WATER LEAKING OUT OF DVD PLAYER WHEN RAINING CHECKED OPERATION, WATER TESTED WITH HOSE AND VERIFIED WATER LEAKING OUT OF DVD PLAYER. REMOVED B AND C UPPER TRIM PANELS AND LOWERED HEADLINER AND CHECKED DRAIN HOSES, HOSES NOT BLOCKED OR KINKED. FRONT DRAINS OPERATE PROPERLY AND REAR WERE NOT DRAINING. CONTACTED HOTLINE. WAS ADVISED TO INSTALL KIT PER TSB 08 24 08. INSTALLED KIT
