Hello!

New to the forum here. I just picked up a 2009 Expedition Limited with the tow package, among other things. I've been poking around here for a few days and decided to make myself known.

I have a decent background in vehicles and maintenance. I started out working on the family's ford trucks then got sucked into the world of jeeps. My wife bought a TJ which started the addiction...

I followed her up by buying a WJ. It didn't take long before the modifications started.

Since two isn't enough, I bought a third jeep - 1979 J-10.

I've been working on all of them for quite some time - maintenance, upgrades, repairs, etc. Moral of the story, I'm versed in the industry.

Since our family is growing (2 year old son and 11 week old son), we decided we needed more room. 2 days ago, we snagged the Expedition.

It has the usual paint bubbles on the rear hatch but the rest of it is in good shape. The other negative is the tires - someone decided to burn the rear tires down to the wear bar. I measured 2/32 on the rears. The fronts aren't near as bad but I figure I'll replace them all at once.

The current debate is which tire/size to go with. Since I'll be driving in snow/ice during the winter and the Expy will occasionally see more than just street use, I'm considering the BFG T/A KO2s (since they're snowflake rated) in a 275/70R18. I love the DuraTracs but I really don't think I'll need that much of an aggressive tire.

If anyone has suggestions, advice, warnings, etc., I'm all ears. I'll post this up in the Gen 3 area as well after I do a little more research.

Good to meet you all!

Chris

Welcome to the site, I can't help on the tires though. When it snows here in Atlanta the place shuts down....and the nation laughs.

Now if you want to "redneck" your rig, I know a few down here that can help.

I posted in the Gen 3 area. I ended up ordering some Michelin LTX A/T2s in the 265/70R18 flavor. They'll be installed tomorrow!
