We have a 2009 Expedition EL. It's just shy of 200,000 miles.

Since late summer we have had an intermittent issue with the car not wanting to start. You turn the key, the dashboard lights turn on, the interior fans blow, but you don't hear the starter trying to engage or anything.

Sometimes it starts right away, other times it takes between 3-10 times of turning the key.

Today, the alarm system starting going off before it finally decided to start.

Could the alarm system be causing the vehicle to not want to start or are there other issues at play?

For example, the battery is several years old but doesn't show the usual signs of a weak battery like dimmer interior lights or funny noises from the ignition system like there isn't enough cranking amps.

Our usually go-to mechanic isn't sure what to make of this issue.
