12" or 15"?

Should I go with two 12" Kicker L7's (750 watts)?

Or step it up a notch and get two 15" Kicker L7's (1000 Watts)?



My mom is getting them for my birthday. And want to know if I can sneak in some better subs .


And space isn't an issue. I have all the space behind the 2nd row seat for a box.

I sell Kicker stuff, and I would recommend going with the Kicker CompVX's. I've seen and heard more problems with the L7's than most other subs. I see the surrounds wearing apart on them because of the square design with the ridges. I don't know if anyone here has seen that problem, but I would say that the CompVX is a more reliable sub. On top of that, they aren't exactly weak either. If you match them with a good amp, they are very loud.

So the VX's are better all-around? I'm going to be powering the 2000 watts with a Rockford Fosgate t20001bd amp (2000 watts @ 1-ohm)

Any other amps I should look at? I generally know the brands to stay away from, but any other trusted names I should look at? Need around 2000 watts @ 1 or 2-Ohms.

I don't know about the 15's Zero. From my experience in the past, bigger isnt always better when it comes to subs. If you find yourself a great pair of 12's, i think you would get better sound out of those than 2 15's. A lot of the times when you go to 15's things just get sloppy and your music and bass sounds like ass. Just my two cents.

Well, I'm really just looking for more power. 15's are 500 watts more total combined.

15's = 2000 rms
12's = 1500 rms

I currently have two Rockford Fosgate P3D412's. 500 watts each (1000 total). Not loud enough for me. I need to really push some loud subs. I personally want to go deaf if I max them out. haha.

Don't start to go deaf like me! I still say the 12's would be better, one reason being that your amp's wattage is closer to the 12" subs peak than the 15's. The more closely you match the subs with an amp, the better they sound, and the longer they last.

RF has it rated at 2000 watts and it's usually underrated. I have an entirely different amp powering my current 12's. All my audio stuff is going to be sitting in a box in my closet till I finish buying it all.

If the 12's rms is 1500, then their peak is probably around 3000. If the 15's rms is 2000, then their peak is probably around 4000. If your amp pushes 2000 watts, then you'll only be giving the 15's the bare minimum that they need to work properly. The 12's would be getting more than just the minimum, so it would be more optimal.

I think everyone is just misunderstanding each other.
What are the rms and max ratings of the subs and amps?
Match the rms values first, since they are more important to match than the max values.
I am sure that is what everyone means, but everyone is leaving out too many details to be sure.

Sounds perfect, as long as the amp's RMS matches the combined sub's RMS. It would hit very hard! I think Remo's right, I was just leaving out detail that made it look wrong.

I'm glad we all got it now, lol.
Anyway, that's gonna be f'in nuts when its all put together.
I cannot even imagine how intense that bass is gonna be. I have the cheapest sub setup now (2 Visonik 12"s and a 300 rms/400 max amp) and even that can be too intense for my passengers at times.
Be sure to get us some pics when its finished. I can't wait to see it.

Well, I don't plan on getting it all set up till after xmas. Cause I still have a new headunit, speakers, speaker amp, and sub amp to buy then have it installed. So thats about 1400 bucks worth of stuff I still have to get. Haha.

The 12's I have now hit pretty hard. But I want to have my truck rattle apart with the bass. Haha.

Just to let you know beforehand, you may want to tighten the back handle. I rattled mine off. It looks like I need some sort of small clip, and a couple nuts to get my handle back on. I keep the handle in the Ex, and whenever I have to open the back door, I just plug the handle into the spot. I'll be shaving the back door soon, so I won't have to worry about it much longer.
