The sub in my truck has a bad rattle in it when I play bass-heavy music. I would like to replace it.

I have been told that an aftermarket sub will require more power than the factory amp provides. Ford no longer carries OEM replacements.

I am no car audio ****, and I don't want to learn to install an amp or pay somebody to put in an amp and aftermarket sub.

Is anyone aware of a speaker that I can just plug in that will work with the power supplied by the factory amp?

you can put an aftermarket sub in there with no probs...they also make stealth boxes with a sub...best if you did put an amp on it...no biggie if you dont

Too bad your so far, my stockers sitting in my garage now. You can make just about any 8" sub work in the stock location.

I have heard of people dropping an aftermarket 8 inch sub in there, and just having it be a little underpowered. I've also heard there are depth issues fitting it in there- what is the max depth I could use?

I have also heard getting the panels out is a *****.

Does anyone have any experience with the mtx thunderform?

would i need the amplified version? how much better is that than putting another 8 inch speaker in the stock location? worth the money?

It took me about 10 minutes to get the panel pulled back far enough to get the sub enclosure out. You have to completely remove the enclosure to get your old sub out because it bolts through the back. The bolt hole is going to be in the way when you put in a new sub, and many people just cut the big hump (where the old sub bolts through the enclosure) off and over it with a piece of sheet metal. I just used a hot air gun and slowly heated the hump until it was soft enough to flatten it out with a block of wood. I held it there until the plastic cooled and then taped over the bolt hole with duct tape on both sides to keep the air from leaking as much as possible. I bought a cheap Boston Acoustics 8" sub on Ebay for like $60 with shipping and put that in mine. It sounds great with the factory amp. It seriously took me less than 30 minutes to do the entire thing.

This is what i bought:
