I have a 1997 Expedition Eddie XLT. The 4x4 was working great the last time I used it 2 weeks ago. The only thing I did to the truck was changed out the two front tires at the same time by lifting up the front end. When I put it in N it will go in to AWD just fine, but when I try to go to 4L or 4H it makes a clicking noise in the knob. and nothing happens? If anyone has any ideas I thank you.

same problem with mine, t-case motor. I remove the axle which connects to my front wheel for 4x4 mode, now its just 2 wheel drive until i save enough money to buy a new t-case motor.

Can anyone tell me if this is the motor? And if so rockauto.com has it for 78.00 is that a good price? I would think this is a okay job to do motor should be on the outside of the transfer case?

Thank you

Toward the end of winter my truck had issues with going in to 4 wheel drive.
I'm pretty sure that the transfer case motor is fine though because I could see the front drive shaft spin when my brother spun the rear tires in the snow. I think my issue is the front axle disconnect. It is a vacuum operated "motor" right next to the diff. It is controlled by those two vacuum solonoids behind the battery.

This may be something to look at before you kill yourself hunting down parts.

Guess I need to troubleshoot the issue further before the snow flies.
