My Ford is not shifting into 4th gear at all.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do? I am a do it yourselfer if possible.

Would the differential being low on fluid be a problem? I noticed a leak of grease or oil on the rear passenger side wheel inside that seems to be coming from the axle.

Any help would be appreciated. Great community here!

Sounds like rear seals are leaking. I had to replace mine for doingthe same thing. Make sure its not getting on your brakes or you will be replacing those too. Is your O?D light flashing? Have you checked your trans fluid level?

First off, welcome.

++ on fluid levels and filter change too; when was the last trans service & how many miles on her?
.
the other symptoms you may have experienced could be coincidental.

lastly, your torque converter is not locking up, is that what you are describing?

hmm

Changed the filter and trans fluid about a year ago. I guess I will do that again and see what happens. It is 4x4 if that matters. It just seems to not be shifting into the last gear in drive.

Do the differential and rear seals have anything to do with the way the tranny works? Could they be the problem or is the not shifting into 4th gear relate directly to the tranny?

Thanks for the welcome. I have been coming here for a few years. We have a Eddie Bauer edition and it is really a sweet ride. It has over 200K miles but we have done all the tune ups/check ups on schedule since day one.

I appreciate the help. I have been reading around here for a few years. Seems everytime I search for a issue I can find an answer here.
