Hello All,

Im looking for some help or some insight ....

1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L 4x4.

Did have have 4WAS suspension but have recently converted over to Shocks and Springs all the way around. (much better I must say.)

My questions and insight do not to pertain to that thought. It has to do with my 4WD.

No matter what I put my selector into
(4 HI, 4LO, or AWD) all I get on the insturment panel is the A4WD indicator light. there is no noise, no relay clicking, or movement or input from transfer case or front axles. The 4WD is dead except for the A4WD indicator light on the IP.

I have the Ford Manuals for that model year. And have been studying the wiring schematics for the 4x4 on the truck. And from what I can tell The 4WD system is tied into alot of things on the truck.

Note: the 4WD worked Intermintally with this problem becoming more common Now it has stopped working completely

Another note: This problem started well before I did the suspension conversion.

Any insight or help is greatly appreciated

Thanks.

My 98 had the exact problem you described. It was the transfer case shift motor. It was bad. I installed a new one I ordered on Amazon. Pretty easy install. The hardest part was changing the pins in the plug. Here is a youtube video on how to replace it.
