1st Oil Change (surprise - metal drain plug)

After a routine oil change at the Ford dealer, my 18 Expo MAX started leaking from the plastic quarter turn. Took it back a few days later and they switched it out with a new one for free because it wasn't leaking prior to the oil change. They told me it's common to see them leak because the o-ring goes bad and they're only $9 for the part. If they know it's problematic, I wonder why they never switched me to the metal plug.

I think (big disclaimer there) that the oil pan itself is different. At a minimum is think the plastic is a quarter turn and metal has standard threads so I don’t believe they’re interchangeable.

Had I received an Expedition with a plastic plug I probably would just replace it at every oil change.
