hey guys/gals sorry its been a while ive been working a lot trying to get the new shop up and running so ive been away as the topic states 1st time for me I was driving my expo when I heard a loud pop and the my truck started running extremely rough so I pulled over thinking I just blew my engine so I popped the hood thinking im gonna see a hole in the block or fluids pouring out but nothing so I looked all over the engine looking for signs of detonation and what did I find somehow the engine thru out my spark plug with enough force to break the coil off where it bolts to the bracket so I replaced the coil and plug and its running fine (this happened 3 weeks ago) anyone else have this happen or can tell me what could have caused it

The 1st gens are notorious for spitting out the plugs. Sometimes you have to put in a heliciol to fix it. The 2nd gens are notorious for not letting them go.

Yeah google 5.4 2v eject plug and you will see a lot of war stories. Helicoils and timesert kits are the two main ways to fix it. If you did not do either, there is a strong chance that same plug will go again. Usually strips the threads in the head when it gets thrown.

Mine did the same thing, every couple weeks I usually throw a socket and wrench in there just to make sure it's still tight... Should be fine, u will just have to keep an eye on it

My research showed the 3v 5.4L also spit plugs a lot and was a major worry for me when looing to buy. I'm still wondering if I should be worried or maybe take a preventative action anyway, just in case.

Honestly, I have never heard of them spitting the plugs, since they added extra threads to fix the problem after 1998 with the PI heads. Main spark plug concern with the 3v's is that their spark plugs come out in 3 pieces.
