I have a 2001 Eddie Bauer expedition that will never start on the first or third try, it has to have the key cycled and lock cycled before it will start. Is there a fix for this? I couldn't find a sticky post for this fix . any help would be great !!!!!

Please clarify what you mean by "doesn't start".

Engine will spin (cranks) but not start up(run)?

Engine doesn't spin at all?

Hey Roxy, this one might be a good head scratcher for a change. I'm thinking loose connection in steering column to be the first item to look at. Then the grounds at the kick panels. The action of the door solenoids may jar the harness enough to make a connection. Would need to prove this theory though.

OP - try this please - open all 4 doors and do your routine. Let us know if it still starts.

Was the fuel filter changed, Have you checked fuel pressure
If the fuel pump has never been changed it could cause the problem.

In the future it is best if you answer question that are asked with details
Telling someone that its been serviced doesn't tell me anything as you gave no information on what was serviced. The help you receive all depends on the information

Test fuel pressure, cycle the ignition key from off to the run position about 5 times then try to start.

how about the fuel pump relay, and fuse. lets get an electrical test on that if the pressure doesn't build until after the key is cycled.

Good suggestion but if the relay or fuse were the problem he wouldn't be able to start at all especially if the fuse were bad Fuses don't work one time then fail and then work again

relay : bad internal contact, swap with known good/compatible relay for testing

fuse: corroded connection at blade insert

that was just the little list I had in my head, my bad for not elaborating before posting
