Well, it happened again today, or at least a variant of the problem.
I drove the car to work today with no issues. My son jumped in it after I came in and nothing would happen when he tried to start it. However, when he turned it off and pulled the key, it stayed in accessory mode. Everything worked, radio, fan, and all the gauges. Put the key back in, tried to crank, nothing.
I removed the key, accessory mode still on, pulled fuse 102 and nothing changed. Put the fuse back in, tried to crank it, nothing. Accessory mode still on, key in hand.
I had wife open and shut the right side passenger door, everything shuts off. I put the key in, it cranked right up, moved it to the street, turned it off and it went back into accessory mode. Tried to crank again, nothing. Open and shut the rear passenger door, didnt stop this time. I locked the doors with the switch on the drivers door, all doors locked, but the drivers side popped right back up in about 2 seconds. Tried this multiple times and it did the same thing each time. I ended up disconnecting the ground terminal so not to run down the battery.
So, what little I've done to date just for your info. Replaced the ignition switch, this is the first episode on that switch. Pulled several fuses from the box to see if any looked corroded, none did. Car has original windshield so, I don't think any water is making it's way to the fuse box. Nothing added to vehicle. The altenator was replaced with the best NAPA model, auto door lock actuators, window switch, but other than light bulb replacement, that's about it.
Please help, don't know where to start at this point.
