I have a 2004 Expedition with 260,000 miles on it. 4.6L, auto trans. I drive 60 miles each day to and from work on interstate and travel for work, very little around town mileage. Today I began having that seems to be transmission, but I want to make sure.

While driving with overdrive on, around 40 mph, the engine acts as if it is in neutral. The RPMs rev, but there is no response in acceleration. When I turn overdrive off, then there is no issue. My first response is transmission, but thought it could potentially be a sensor since there is no issue when driving without overdrive. The overdrive being turned off and the truck operating fine is what is throwing me off.

Any help would be helpful. If you need additional info, just let me know.

Does not sound good. Sounds like your overdrive ring band or snap ring may have broke. This is apparently a common issue with your particular tranny. I would take it to dealer or tranny shop for diagnosis. Hopefully it is something simple.
