Hi there. I installed the above HU in 2006, and I'd like to toss around a few things in this post for anyone with the same setup.

1) Has anyone been able to retain (or obtain dual) functionality of the OEM rear seat DVD player/display? In the AVIC forum site, people with Expys and Navigators have said they were only able to keep the rear unit working by keeping the OEM stereo/CD player (stripped down heavily) in the dash. The idea of yanking all extra plastic off my OEM HU and shoving it in the dash for the sole sake of having some "needed wires" connected so my rear passengers can watch a DVD doesn't appeal to me, and I'm sure it's pretty noisy rattling around in there.

Has anyone successfully worked around this?

2) For those that have performed the install with Crutchfield-suggested parts, specifically the PAC SWI-PS steering control adapter, are you having any issues with it? My steering controls are hit-and-miss: sometimes they work, other times they don't. I can't seem to determine a pattern as to when they will work and when they won't. I've been in the dash and I've reprogrammed the controller several times since original install - of course it works fine the same day, but it seems that as the days pass, functionality decreases proportionately.

Anyone having similar issues?

3) Subwoofer pop on startup. I have read on the AVIC forum that there needs to be a voltage regulator installed between the AVIC HU and the subwoofer to prevent the pop. From what I read (and it's been a while, so my numbers may be off), the OEM subwoofer needs 9 volts, but replacing the OEM HU removes a voltage regulator, and the AVIC HU sends all 12 volts to the subwoofer. It doesn't hurt it, and doesn't decrease performance in my opinion, but it is a loud pop every time the unit is turned on. The fact that it scares the pants off of my mother-in-law is the only positive thing I can see coming from this.

Has anyone introduced a voltage regulator (there may be another word for this part - like capacitor - but I'm not an electronics wizard).

Thanks for the opportunity to ask these questions!
