Hello, I am new to this forum and discovered this site while searching known problems for this year vehicle. Anyways, it looks like the are a lot of educated people who might be able to offer some input on a 2006 Expedition King Ranch 2wd 5.4 L that I am looking to purchase. The Carfax are clean, the mileage is 92,000. The condition seems to be average to slightly above average with little to no interior wear or stains. I will be using this as my main vehcile and will also use it to tow my boat(4000-5500lbs depending on load). Sometime the towing will be over 250 miles each way but usually only 45 miles. The long haul will only be 6-7 time a year at that distance. My concern is the mileage and life left of the vehicle with the loads of towing and daily driving I will be doing. I am aware of the spark plug issue and paint chipping issue. The previous owner just had a FOrd dealer due a 90,000 maintenance tune up and everything checked out in good condition. My cocerns are buying this truck and then getting caught up in maintenance/ repair bills in the near future. What preventative maintenance should be done to the truck within the next few miles to make sure I am problem free for the next 40,000 miles? Are there any other known mechanical issues out there? I am negiotating the price now and would like anyone's expertise to what I am getting into and what I can expect. Thank you. Dan

As long as the maintenance is up to date, and was done on a regular schedule, these vehicles can last a long time. Spark plugs/COPs, rear AC blower motor, and hood and rear hatch corrosion are the problems that occur most often. Infrequently the throttle body needs to be replaced if there is an issue with the throttle position sensor.
As far as towing, the 4000-5000 lbs will be no issue if the tongue weight is correct. The boat in my sig is right around 6000 lbs and I towed it from SC to Wisconsin (1200 miles), and tow it around 500 miles round trip up north 2 times a year, as well as the short trips to the lake here. It pulls it with ease, but the MPG's suffer as would be expected. As long as the diff and trans fluids are well maintained, you should be good unless the previous owner abused it.
At 92,000 it will be due for plug change now if it hasn't been done already, and I would replace the COPs while that's being done. Has the trans fluid been replaced yet? I think that is due at 100K, but if it has been used for towing previously, it should be done now, if not already.

I acquired my 2003 expedition with 120,000 miles and now have 140,000 miles. Over two years period I have replaced the fuel pump /spark plugs/ number one coil, and had major electrical problem where the remote door lock quick working. The door lock failure was due to electrical short under the passenger seat. So this is some of the possible problems you be looking in the future years.
